Beach house in the keys

I grew up wanting it to be beach but now I want mountain.

Yeah Lake Tahoe would be my retirement destination if I could afford it.

Prairie is a terrible idea. Yes, it's big sky country, but.... The wind will blow you sideways, dust storms, wind in your ears... all maddening. I used to live next to the Comanche National Grassland.
Beach all day long for us.

I lived on the beach before, among 11 states I've lived in.
I retired on a farm in Oklahoma and it's been great.
I fish almost every day, smoke the cheapest medicinal herb in the country, take care of livestock and run a woodworking shop. It's amazing and I have the best quality of life. I wouldn't trade my life for anyone else's.
No neighbors, no bullshite. Fairly inexpensive and I can do anything I want on my own land.
ETA--it's 11 am and I'm on my front porch drinking coffee and smoking a joint. I do it 365 days a year. Freedom is a wonderful thing, gentlemen, so retired wherever you can get the most of it.

Beach house on an island. Get to go scuba diving every day and have fresh fish.
Mountain Lodge would be the second choice. Maybe at Lake Tahoe. Get the beach and mountains all in one. Great outdoors location too.

Mountain lodge with river and/or large lake.

My initial instinct is mountain lodge, but a beach house in the Monterey/Carmel CA area would be heaven. To afford one I must be rich af in this scenario, and it’s perfect weather year round.
Though beautiful up there, I prefer the more remote stretch between San Simeon and Morro Bay. Lush green hill pastures behind you.

Depends on the beach, depends on the mountain. It definitely would NEVER be a prairie home.

I have a coworker (seasonal) who has a house in Lincoln City, OR
It seems like a good compromise between mountains and beach.

I’ve got a part time bay house across the street from the beach. I love being on the beach first thing in the morning, sunrise, have coffee, surf fish, jog, whatever else. Then again in the afternoons/evenings, after the crowds and heat of the day. Fire and stars/moon at night.
During the day I fish, crab, run errands, cook, etc. frick the heat and the crowds. Sometimes I’ll go out but usually I enjoy the beach before and after the drunks.
