Its not really even a close decision for me.

I used to say mountains, but as I've gotten older the idea of scraping windshields in sub zero temps only to drive on an icy road to get to the only grocery store 12 miles away sounds like its not worth the occasional hike in the mountains.

I fell in love with the south. I'm picking ocean.

Sidenote: I rented a house on the side of a mountain in Montana this summer. It was beautiful. But my husband fell and injured himself at the house and I wasn't sure how I was going to get him up the three flights of stairs to the car to take him for xrays. Stuff old people think about.

Old people get really cold with all the blood thinners and heart medications they take. I bet 9 out 10 retirees would take the beach.

If not for price and politics, Southern California.

Carlsbad or Valley Center preferably.

Mountains - We've had enough of having to worry about hurricanes.

I currently live at the beach and am starting to wish I lived in the mountains.

of now, I'd like a mountain home, however there is a reason old people move to Florida and Arizona. Living near the mountains in winter sucks arse
I live near mountains in Arizona. Living on a mountain in winter sucks arse. Living near them doesn't mean it's cold.

After living my entire life on flat land I would never get tired of looking out the front door and seeing mountains. Seeing elevation changes is good for your mental health.

Mountains. Not even debatable for me.

The cool, crisp mountain air is eons better than sand, sweat, and salt water.

The High Country of NC

I’ve posted this before but the average HIGH temp atop Mt Mitchell is 62. In July and August. Obviously that’s the highest peak east of MS. But you can stay cool in summer in many places in WNC.

We have mountain views and a clear running river and waterfalls. But we are in a rainforest so it’s not quite as pleasant in the summer. But short drive to escape. We chose where we are bc we love Greenville, and family is close. We looked seriously at Black Mountain and north toward Boone though.
