I spent some time in memphis, and I will say I've never seen a city with more potential to be awesome... but it just doesn't deliver. too many boarded up shops, and dead nightlife. you don't see any young professionals running around, or tourists out having a good time

I live in nola now and if I thought memphis was on the verge of a comeback, I'd consider moving there. the music is cool and the people are friendly

Memphis would have better job opportunities and better suburbs. Nola would be more fun.

Which place has the better suburbs?

Memphis. NOLA's best suburbs are on the other side of a 20 mile long bridge.

Memphis and New Orleans should be sister cities.

Crime is bad in both, both have lots of stuff to do downtown and are loaded with restaurants. Both you would have to live in the burbs.

Gentrified parts of Memphis is like NOLA without the hipsters.

For me the better choice is Memphis. Better suburbs, closer to more real cities, and you can get to the mountains quickly for outdoor recreation.

I guess if you are into fishing, frogging, boating and prop stopping New Orleans is better for you but there is much more to do within a 75 minute drive than NOLA. Biloxi beaches not included.

Memphis for me but I love the terrain and like the food better than seafoody NOLA.

And that's just the bridge. Covington to Downtown is like 40 miles. It's not much closer than Hammond.

It's a nice area but it would be a lot better if you worked on the Northshore too.

The Nola haters make me laugh. To actively hate New Orleans you’ve either got to be as much fun as a telephone pole or the biggest redneck on the planet.

I’m very pro Tennessee and from New Orleans. I don’t foresee ever moving back to New Orleans and don’t have any interest in doing it. Have spent a good amount of time working in Memphis. F***k Memphis, I would move back to NOLA well before moving there.

I've lived in both places. Of the two dumpster fire shite shows, I'll take NOLA strictly for the entertainment options, food, and proximity to fishing.

Lived in Memphis for a little while and I visit NOLA frequently. I'm not a fan of NOLA at all but it's head and shoulders above Memphis.

You don't have to live in the burbs in Nola. The nice areas are expensive though.
