OTOH you'd probably catch some of that xenophobic flak if you're black, or a non-Japanese Asian.

Can't speak for non-Japanese Asians, but I can tell you I had zero problems over there. Nothing but gregarious folks interacting with me the whole time I was there

I'm serious. I would post them here, if I was confident I wouldn't be banned. I have no idea what the rules are regarding raccoon-men, but I have a feeling that showing truck-size scrotum is frowned upon by Chicken and the crew.

South Africa without a doubt. Japan is a dense clusterfrick with disasters that affect essentially the entire country every decade.

Japan. Japanese ladies are hot. The food is unique and good. The people are quiet, polite, and courteous.

Braai is really nice, but I have a hard time separating crime from South Africa.

Capetown:

Two Oceans, one warm water, one cold;
Lekker surfing, fishing, diving and hundreds of miles of beaches;
Mountains, forests, plains, semi-deserts;
White water rivers and estuarine rivers;
Over 340 winefarms, about half of which have restaurants;
NOT run by the ANC but by the pale opposition party;
Stunning women of all flavors and unbelievable night life;
The best weather I have ever seen - lowest temp in the 40's, highs in the low 100's, always very low humidity. Always cools off at night due to the oceans. Very few homes have AC due to this.

Not because I'm particularly worried about living in a cracker-dominated area, but simply because I've heard less than pleasant things about Japan in terms of xenophobia.

The Japanese are xenophobic for sure, but they practically worship whites. If you're white, you don't have anything to worry about living in Japan.

Cape Town.

I've read from serious sources that for Americans or Europeans living in Japan for over a year causes psychological damage. The culture is just too weird.

capetown, SA is where all the white people live, so it wouldn't be too much of an ethnic shock.

You don't have to worry about xenophobia as a white guy, since if anything they'd treat you with more respect. If you were black however, I'd never recommend living anywhere in Asia. They truly hate black people over there.

Where did you get this misinformation ? Pretoria is is the "Whitest" large city in South Africa with nearly 2 million of the entire countries 4 million-5 million whites.("Pretoria is the "Whitest" city on the continent of Africa).

Even by percentages Pretoria (Gautang) has a larger or equal percentage of Whites than Cape Town(Western Cape) at around 15-16%.

Politically the ANC is less popular(so far ) in Cape Town, I admit , but you'll be in for a huge surprise going to Cape Town believing its 'lily White".

Smaller cities like Port Elizabeth are "Whiter" & some surburbs/ small towns may be as close to you'll get to your White fantasy within South Africa.

That being said I would pick South Africa simply because I do not wish to live in a non English Speaking Country . Too fiercely independent to struggle with a foreign language in a foreign country.

True, however don't forget the 'colored' segment of the population and what they represent. In the Western Cape Province (where Cape Town is located), 53% of the population is colored. A far greater percentage than in Gauteng. And, not to be that guy, but the coloreds and whites get along very well. The coloreds and the Africans...? Not so much. So look at the approx. 34% African population in the Western Cape as a comparison to the other cities in SA.
