It’s not dumb to consider the academic prestige of the school you’re attending.

The schools are not opening bigger doors for graduates of either university.
I don’t have a degree from either since Texas threw my grad school application in the trash, but they’re one of the top public schools in the country. Tennessee is a fine school, but their reputation doesn’t come close.

If you value getting a top tier education, Texas
If you’re afraid of the occasional liberal with blue bangs, Tennessee

Again the prestige is stupid. Only people in Texas value the Texas schools so highly for general positions.
There isn’t anyone who is going to throw a resume for a technical job in the trash because of the difference between Texas and Tennessee. If they do they are morons/Texans.

Okay I'll give you that. They care more about skill than education.

I hope you aspire to hit a higher bar than not having your resume thrown in the trash

Tennessee by far. Better weather, beautiful scenery just 30 min from mountains. No liberal agenda.

I have a degree from Knoxville. Much rather live in Knoxville than Austin just because I rather this part of the country far more than fricking Texas. Education wise, it’s a no brainer, Austin for sure. Now that I am past the point of where your degree even matters, it’s a stupid argument because no one cares about that anymore, just what I have done since the degree. As a college grad just starting out though, Austin will open more doors than Knoxville just from an on paper approach. Anyone who doesn’t think that is just dumb.

It could also close a lot of doors.
I would hire a Vol over a Texas liberal hippie any day of the week

To be fair, there are a lot of liberals on Knoxville campus as well. I would say engineering wise the political spectrum of prospective students leaving campus would be fairly similar which is probably typical across most public universities.

I like Austin, but Knoxville during the fall is awesome. I would choose Knoxville.

Texas is a much better school.

Knoxville is not a big city though. Clearly Austin would be more fun

If Austin only has hippie liberals than I guess New Orleans and Baton Rouge only have thugs that will rob or murder you. Don’t think they do much bass fishing either

Having worked with, recruited, and hired technical talent from universities all over, I am not going to have a preference just because of the school between Texas and Tennessee.
