The machine is bad enough, but it's also a pain in the arse at some stores where they ask you 10 questions about signing up for some card.

"Do you have a such and such card with us?"
"Would you like to sign up, it's free"
"You can save $$$ blah blah blah".
"Would you like to donate a dollar to St. Jude's or do you hate kids with cancer?"

It's like no, I don't want to join your bullshite club and spend an extra 10 minutes here at the register. I want to buy this pack of gum and be on my way.

Every time I select emailed at Home Depot, they print one out anyway. Waste of resources.

I don't like that they ask "would you like to make a donation to ____" when checking out at the grocery store.

Dirty little guilt tactic.

Publix is so bad with this. I don't think I've ever been in a Publix where they weren't asking for money.

I only select email on the accounts that already have my email, such as my Home Depot credit card. Way too much time to input if they do not already have it.

Love emailed receipts for the purpose of returning/warranty items. Had 2+ year old LED flood lights from HD that crapped out and required proof of purchase. Could not find in my files then remembered they email receipts. Searched in email and was able to get $200+ store credit to replace since i was able to find the receipt.

I hate when they casually request my email and phone number.

I was purchasing something at Sears, pillows and comforter set or something, and the lady asked my number and I casually told her we can skip that. She then tells me she couldn't complete the purchase without it...I was dumbfounded. I asked her if I heard her correctly and she once again said I could not purchase anything from Sears unless I gave her my number. Needless to say I asked for a supervisor who looked confused about what her employee was saying.

Zip code is to verify credit
Pin is to verify debit

I hate how dipping the card takes so damn long.

I use square, the old reader, plug in and swipe. The new reader, have to connect to bluetooth, then wait like two minutes for it to connect and then wait for it to read the card.
More secure. But I'd rather take a check.

Also if ever you are in a store that you never go to and want the discount but don't have a loyalty card, there is a hack for that.

There is a phone number we all know.

8675309.

Most used fake number in the world. Enter that with the local area code and get the discount.
It's worked in every state and every store I've tried it. Hell at CVS your receipt will be ten feet long.

I think they do it for customer tracking, correct academy does it. I give them my po box address to throw them off.

The gas stations are the worst. They've figured out how to effortlessly pay at the pump. Use your card and then either enter zip or pin, and fill up. But you go inside, and there is a new chip reader machine sitting there with a piece of tape over the chip slot and sometimes a piece of paper that someone has written SWIPE on in a sharpie.

When I use the company card I choose the e-mail option. It's much easier to do that than carry around a bunch of receipts.

Who the frick still wants paper receipts?

Someone who doesn't want a store to send them junk email. I don't want a receipt emailed to me for everything I buy. I don't even need the paper one most of the time...just throw it away. This whole thread is really pointless though other than the post about playing 20 questions at checkout.

Walk in,
choose product,
walk out of store with product,
get stopped and asked for receipt of purchase,
answer with "it's being emailed.",
profit.

I was told not to do this.

They get a big tax write off with your charitable donation. Not sure how true that is.
