It's a little bit of both here, you in all likelihood caused the damage to this vehicle.

But that's also the risk they run when parking so close to another vehicle.

I try and leave craters in people's cars when the park so close like that.

Get an air stem remover, unplug and remove the air from two tires...

The other vehicle is then frozen in place and any help they call will see they park like jackasses...

If they ever find you, just say you needed to lower their car to get in yours

If they park bad, there is no shame in denting their car.

You're good. The issue was caused by the other driver who did not leave enough reasonable space. Key word being reasonable. You did what you had to do to get in the car normally.

You were 100% justified.

Move on with your day and ignore the self-righteous OT crowd.

Uhhh...maybe the other guy's passenger side door was 12-18 inches from the poster's driver's side door?

If the a-hole was worried about his car he would do a better job parking it,
I wouldn’t have a second thought about it.
I seriously doubt this is his first bad parking and I’d bet you didn’t even ding his car.

How close were you to the line? If you parked on the edge of your spot that's on you and you should feel bad. If you parked in the middle of your spot and they parked right on the line, or over the line, then it's their fault and I wouldn't worry about it.

This.

I'm definitely an a-hole.

If someone parks close enough to me where I have to squeeze into my truck, they're getting some damage.

Funny Story Flashback: One time, me and my buds drove to Tampa and when we pulled into the hotel lot, I opened the car door. The door was at the perfect distance from the car aside it, and my door ripped a MASSIVE 3-ft scratch across it!

We were all freaking out about what to do. So, I told everyone to get back in the car....

...and park on the other side of dude we just hit.
