Not in the slightest. San Antonio to Temple is a straight shot on I-35. Even if you take the 130 loop you pass directly in front of the Tesla Gigafactory which is full of chargers

If I may throw another wrinkle in that story, that poster stated the boss had to stop in Kingsville on both the trip there and back.

The only Kingsville, TX I can find is near...Corpus Christi

So yea, I have zero clue about that post, it doesn't make any sense at all.

Had my Tesla Model 3 Long Range for a year now. Best car I've ever owned, and it's not close. Had Mercedes, VW, Toyota Tacoma, etc. For anyone concerned about charging, it charges in my garage for an hour every night and costs me $1 roughly.

Nice! I've had mine for 3 months, with a Mid-Range before that for 3+ years.

Drove it from Knoxville to PCB multiple times. Stopped every 3 hours to piss, eat and charge it. Took 15-20 min to charge, so I walked the dog during that time. It also drove itself for 90% of the way on Autopilot, I won't buy anything else now.

If you have a family trip with 2-3 kids, stopping to charge on a 5-10 hour trip doesn't take nearly as long as people think. You're going to stop once or twice usually to eat, bathroom, etc.

This obviously isn't perfect science as traffic could be different, but we do an annual ski vacation and the drive is 10 hours. We've done it twice in the midrange Tesla and one year the snow was pretty bad so we took my wife's Grand Cherokee. We always time our trips, the Grand Cherokee trip took us 30 minutes longer than the other 2. For a 10 hour drive, it's really not THAT much longer. Or at the very least, not much longer than a lot of folks would think. Like you said, you're charging while you eat at 1 or 2 stops, and then the other 1 or 2 stops factor into the additional 30 minutes.

I will consider buying one if......

1) They price a decent sadan in the $ 25k range.

2) They equip the EV with a battery that can carry a family of four 350 miles (at posted I-45 Speed Limit) on a single charge

3) You can full charge the thing in five minutes (max)

That'll do for starters. Okay Elon, there's your target. If anybody can meet that target it's you.

Back to my previous post about the aforementioned misconception price...

Your fully loaded GMC truck, did it cost you $25k or $30k? How are you figuring that an EV would cost you double?

Aaaaand another misconception. Evs are 7x less likely to catch fire.

Not until my 2015 Corolla kicks the bucket. At that point, if the economics make sense, why not? That said, if I only had 1 car, I definitely would not get one. Boise is one of the most isolated metro areas in America. No way would I want an EV for a road trip.

Another misconception with Teslas is how much they cost. They ain't cheap. An S or Y most certainly ain't cheap. But people think all Teslas are crazy expensive.

Ok. I’ll admit I was wrong. $58,190 on the website. That’s still about 100% more than what we had paid , and half the range, 330mi versus 650mi.

I can over look the range piece , but the costs have to be comparable for me to bite.

I would love one. Just doeant fit my needs until the infrastructure expands. That aint coming soon enough.

Electric motor is so much more efficient. But I still think we should be utilizing straight electric motors to drive the wheels and a small on board generator to charge the batteries. Too many hybrids try to use both to drive the wheels. Its not efficient

Ill go further. Cng to power the generator. Clean burning.

I know this is absurd but its still funny and true.

top gear zero emissions

I've entertained the thought that it would be interesting as a fourth vehicle. But, there is the potential it'll be just me and I don't need four vehicles. I'm keeping my three ICE vehicles for the rest of my days.

EVs would be easier if they use over the air automatic updates as seems to be the future trend.

My newest ICE is a 2015 and nothing gets updated without my approval or participation.

Future ICE vehicles may differ but i believe that the connectivity features of EVs would make it a lot easier for the government to be involved.

Are you including the petroleum burned to charge the batteries? Or the Lithium mining and burying costs? It's really not friendly to the environment. Slave labor?? Really??

For the "environment" right ? You all realize that the batteries cannot be disposed of in a way that protects the "environment", right ? You all know the materials used to create said batteries are mined by slave children, right ?
And you know what the cost of replacing that battery will be , right ? That is - if it doesn't burn up on its own beforehand.

People are stupid.

the problem I see with this is in cities, lots of people live in apartments or multi unit dwellings where they might not have a spot for a charger.

Many of those residents have short commutes or use public transportation,

300 mile range probably means one charge every 7 days for them

Eventually we will get to the point where charging it takes no longer than filling up the gas tank.

And charging stations will be as plenty as gas stations.

No one fills up their car, at home, with gas.

That’s when I’ll get one
