Nah, he'd laugh in my face.
I interviewed with a company years ago that gave every employee a 3 month paid sabbatical on their 5th anniversary with the company. Of course, they had a horrible reputation of overworking employees and having a toxic environment.

I know of a software company that offers sabbaticals, but I think it’s usually only 6 weeks. But they will also pay for whatever trip you go on.

Checks out.

I get about 30 days of PTO which I generally have trouble finding time to take. My wife doesn't get nearly as much as I do.
We can roll a lot of it over. I think I have about 7 weeks built up.

Wife's company has mandatory month long sabbatical once you make officer. I think you have to do it once every five years. Wife made officer this year so she will get it in 4 more years.

Does your employer offer them to employees after so many years? Dammit I need one.
quote:Wait. Are you bitching about them asking for the very same benefit you desperately "need"?
I suspect that millennials, with their fixation on "quality of life" and other magical bullshite probably wouldn't hesitate to ask for such a benefit.

I know there’s a satirical element to this post, but I do think it’s funny when “boomers” complain about getting alpha’d by millennials taking lots of PTO,
Sabbaticals, working less hours, etc.
"Lol fricking lazy millennial idiots, imagine taking advantage of benefits that are owed to you. Couldn't be me. I even stayed late for free and let the boss pound my wife so he wouldn't think I was lazy."

My job told me to come back in the office in June after being off since March. I told them no I like it at home. It took them until September to replace me. I have a 2 week vacation planned then the holidays and a grand baby coming. I will find another job sometime next year.
quote:this was the case at my husbands job as well. Now they no longer can roll over so he has to take it all by the end of the year. He has many many days off between now and the end of the year.

But man, I need about 6 months on top of a mountain with no phone. Ugh.
My company gives you a 6 week PAID sabbatical after 6 years of service. Additionally if you go do some sort of charity work they offer some sort of grant. Most people use it to travel.

My employer gave all employees an extra 120 hours pto at the height of covid. That on top of the 120 I already get is sweet in theory. Realistically, I’m over a sales team - if I/we don’t hit numbers because of a 6 week vacay there will be hell to pay.

Same with our attorneys. They have unlimited vacation. That doesn't really mean much if you don't hit your billable hours.

I have 3 1/2 weeks of PTO I have to use by the end of the year, and I'm about to hit my busy season. We can't roll over days. Probably going to just take the last 3 weeks of the year off.

I'd like to hike the Appalachian Trail end to end before I get to old to try it. Takes about 6 mos if you hustle.
Do it. Honestly I tell people you don't even have to do the entire thing. Get out and spend a month or two. Doing it all is fantastic, but way to many people get caught up in the destination that they miss the journey.

In the 90s I worked for a company that offered a 6 week sabbatical every 4 years. They would give you an extra paycheck at the beginning of the sabbatical. They were hard core in encouraging folks to take them. In fact, they would lock you out of VPN and email access while on sabbatical.
I know many coworkers that got to partake in this. Of course I never did, they had a massive layoff when I had been employed there for 3 yrs an 8 months. Shortly after they went bankrupt. I know it's hard to believe they couldn't make money when some fraction of the workforce was always missing.
