Designed to provide rapid ground mobility, the expeditionary ISV is a light and agile all-terrain troop carrier intended to transport a nine-Soldier infantry squad moving throughout the battlefield. The ISV is light enough to be sling loaded from a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and compact enough to fit inside a CH-47 Chinook helicopter for air transportability. The total production ISV contract award value is $214.3 million to procure the initial Army Procurement Objective of 649. The approved Army Acquisition Objective is 2,065 vehicles.
GM Defense's solution to the Army's next-generation transportation needs is based off the award-winning 2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 midsize truck architecture and leverages 90 percent commercial off-the-shelf parts. These parts include the Multimatic dual spool-valve dampers and Chevrolet Performance suspension components. The durability and performance of those components have been proven in the grueling Best in the Desert race series, where Colorado is one of only four vehicles to complete 11 consecutive races (out of a total of 434 competitors).
It’s powered by a 2.8 Liter Duramax Diesel engine and has four wheel drive with locking front and rear diffs. It can be lifted and dropped into place via helicopter, and it’s interior is designed to be completely open to the elements. Most mechanical parts are available at Chevy dealerships worldwide. The ISV seats up to 9 soldiers.
2065 will be made in the first order, which means they will cost taxpayers about $100,000 a piece initially.

Are you kidding me?

We've spent billions uparmoring Humvees and now we're sending troops out in a stripped down $100,00 Jeep.
I swear to God, we need a good old fashioned brass purge in our military.

I really hope at least 25-30% of that figure is R&D.

Seems excessive...
Of course it’s the military so let’s spend as much as possible ...

These are basically troop haulers - they are not designed to be armored vehicles. The Hummers are being replaced by heavier armored trucks that can deflect an IED explosion. That’s not what this is.
The Jeep Gladiator was also considered for this contract but was too heavy to be lifted by a Blackhawk.

Looks like the warthog from halo

Did we not learn about unarmored Humvees?

Don't we already have like a million deuce and a halfs that can do this job?

I think this is more of a special forces vehicle for rapid mobilization. It makes sense to have a light truck available that can be carried by a Blackhawk. 2,000 trucks really isn’t a lot and I don’t think it remotely fills the role of a Humvee.
ETA: Think about the potential applications for Rangers being inserted and extracted via helicopter, but still having vehicles for ground transportation.

We could just buy used Toyota pickups from Africa for a grand a piece and get the same end result as this thing
What a waste of money

After re-reading this, are you sure about your math here? The quoted piece says $214MM for the initial order of 649 vehicles. That would be over $300k a piece. I hope I’m misunderstanding it.

Well, I don’t know about that, but we could buy brand new from Can AMs Or Polaris for $20,000 each that would carry four comfortably. With room for some cargo.
