After re-reading this, are you sure about your math here? The quoted piece says $214MM for the initial order of 649 vehicles. That would be over $300k a piece. I hope I’m misunderstanding it.
The order is for over 2,000. The initial production run is for 649.

Well, I don’t know about that, but we could buy brand new from Can AMs Or Polaris for $20,000 each that would carry four comfortably. With room for some carg
I think they wanted to carry more people than that. The one they selected (ISV) holds 9 people.

We've spent billions uparmoring Humvees and now we're sending troops out in a stripped down $100,00 Jeep.
Yea, I'd drive it. I already have one. It's called Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that I have highly modified.

Would you drive this?
Sure. I’d be the envy of every baw from here to New Iberia.

The Jeep bid was rejected. It was too heavy and couldn’t carry 9 people, so it wasn’t even a finalist.
Polaris was also rejected because it could only carry 4. It was a finalist though.

Yeah these are for low-threat environments. The Oshkosh L-ATVs are replacing most of the humvees

This is a special purpose vehicle, not a general transport for troops.
The JLTV will be the general transport for troops across all branches replacing the aging hmmwv platform.

Ok that thing looks fricking sweet

Looks it would totally stand up to a South African 155 daisy chain. Has anyone at DOD R&D actually been to combat?

Someone went a little crazy with that rack and their dimple dies.

I have no rebuttal
It can carry a 7,000 HV but I dont think it can with 11 troops and their equipmennt also on board.
Then there is the range and performance issues. Even if it can lift a HV and 11 troops, speed, range, rate of climb and hot temperature performance would be severely limited.

In the next 3-5 years they will add 3 Tons of armor on it for IED protection. How long till the next uniform change?

Remember the shite show the military went through because they didn't put armor underneath the Stryker vehicles?
I guess the army forgot because they just stripped down a Chevy Colorado.
It has no body behind the hood. I hope those squads aren't driving it within 1000 yards of anyone with anything bigger than a pistol.
Other than that pretty major issue, that thing looks like it would handle some trails for the weekend warrior.
