Interesting to hear if the problems Spleen mentioned are widespread as I’ve always heard they were great cars.

I think most of my issues were just bad luck, but they used to be notorious for bad head gaskets and mine was in need of new head gaskets when I got rid of it. I think they've corrected the head gasket issue in the newer models though.

I would drive the Audi, Volvo, or Subaru. With the obligatory Thule box on top, of course.

We have an Outback 2015, bought it because the safety features were light years ahead of the rest. I love it, yes the interior has no flash, but I don't care, I buy cars for me, not to impress anyone. My wife made fun of my cheap little car, but when it saved me from colliding with a road grader that pulled in front me, she was sold.

Two years ago she got a Forester to replace her Highlander.

Posts like these lead me to think that I'm a walking stereotype.

Subarus awd is supposedly great for snow and ice, but the CVT sucks when it’s stressed. They look pretty good with a set of BFG ATs and a little extra wheel offset though.

Buick... not happening.

Volvo looks great.

Audi A6 Allroad looks better and more of an SUV replacement vs the A4 Allroad.

E63S is in a different league.

Did they go to CVTs in the OUtback? I know the Legacy and Forester have had CVTs for a while now.

I'll never own a car with CVT.

The Buick is the best looking of the bunch.

The Buick does look very good with the chrome strip running over the roof to the tail lights.

Will the Audi's Air Conditioner keep the interior under 80F? Forewarned is forearmed.

My mother is having this problem with her 2010 Jetta wagon. And it has the glass roof (which she didn't want, but it was almost impossible to find a diesel 6-speed in red without it). The shop says it's cooling properly but it's just not keeping up.

I didn’t get the glass roof in my ‘10 TDI because of the AC issue.

Research “hot country vcds settings”. Evidentially there is an adjustment you can make in the coding.

My parents had a station wagon like that in the 70s.

We got my wife an Outback a year or two back. It's a great car. We'd probably own two if I didn't need a truck for work. We had a chance to buy a used BMW 328xi wagon at a really good price, but passed on it because I've owned used BMWs before and I don't have that kind of money or time to maintain them. It drove really awesome, though.

I was really close to buying a CPO BMW wagon last year. To bridge the maintenance package to the length of the CPO warranty was $3700!! Eff that!
