Would you demand a refund if a rental car company put you in a car with tires this bad?

I'm not talking about just the expense of replacing the tires. The rental company took care of that. I'm talking about them refunding the entire cost of the rental. I could have died or killed someone due to their negligence.

They messed up my 4 day trip. The first day was a bumpy ride for 200 miles. The 2nd day I had to drive around to 3 gas stations to find a properly working air compressor and put air in the tire. I think it should be a federal law for all gas stations to have properly working air compressor and hose BTW.

The tire light came on again that evening and I had to put more air in it. All the tire stores were closed by this time. The next morning the tire is flat. I had to change it and drive to the tire store. The tire store takes off the front 2 tires and shows me how bad they are. The back tires had one that was 90% worn out and the other was a newer tire that had been replaced. I call the rental car company and have to take photos and wait for them to pay for it. So my whole morning is wasted by this point.

Here are both front tires.

That is not my hand BTW.

Did you do a walk around when they gave you the vehicle?

Could have brought it to their attention at the start.

Ugh, that morning i would have called the rental place and say you were stranded and you need a new car delivered to your location.

It was really hard to see when it's the most inner part of the tire. I will do better next time though.

Why did you accept the car in that condition? This seems a bit like asking for a refund for your meal after you've already eaten

It definitely wasn't one of those new Suburban trucks with the porno showing.

Because it wasn't visible without having to crawl underneath the car?

Apples to oranges. I thought the initial bouncing was just an alignment issue. It wasn't bad enough to turn around and drive 50 miles back to the rental place to swap it out.

A refund? Not sure, but maybe a concession.

I needed a last minute rental a week or so ago, and I got some shitty Nissan. Worse than the absolute lack of power, it reeked of curry BO. I did all I could to cover it up and rode with windows down.

When I returned it, they asked how it was... and I was honest. I told them it was Seinfeld level bad. They checked it out and agreed, and hooked me up with a free rental credit. They heavily depend on good reviews, and will go to great lengths to keep you from posting a negative score.

Looks to me that it’s the inside of the tire with the slits. I’ve rented 100’s of cars and never got underneath to look at the inside of the tire.

Ok, that's fair. I'll need to remember this the next time I rent a vehicle and get dirty inspecting before driving off

The question I've asked in the past when dealing with bad tires is, "Would you feel comfortable putting your wife or kid in this car with tires like that?".

I don't wrap up the conversation until they answer it.

Rental companies are having to keep their cars longer than they'd like.

I just got through went a rental from Enterprise that was at least 2 years old with 50,000 miles on it.

That's fair, how do you know you didn't frick up the tires?

What was this rough road for 200 miles you traveled?

Last time I rented a Durango from MSY, the registration had been expired for well over a year and one of the brake lights didn’t work.

I had about 7 too many to drink at the casino so my wife had to drive out. Got pulled over and had to jump through all kinda hoops for the Officer Dickhead. Although wife apparently said I ran my head the entire time.
