Not sure why so many seem to think it needs to be torn down. Unless you're just same rando cookie-cutter developer, I don't think you would buy a house like this with the intention of tearing it down.
There’s a developer that has been buying up property on that part of highland and building cookie cutter rent houses. I don’t think they have demolished any existing houses so far but that’s probably why some folks are saying a developer might tear it down.

6 acres.

FIVE photos.
Whoever created that listing needs to be fired ASAP.
This is really the only photo you need:
A wooden home that's over 100 years old and has a carpet surrounding a fireplace. Who wouldn't want such a firetrap for the low, low price of ~$5M?

That looks like the creepy old woman's house from Big Fish.

I would say 2.5 on the high side. 3 if the house was in better condition. I have been there many times, and the house would be a full on renovation / restoration to meet the standards of anyone paying even 2.5.
I give it an 85% chance of selling around 2.5 or 3 with the buyer renovating the house and subdividing a large part of the rest of the property.

Does anyone have details about the house next door? It’s been in various states of construction/for sale for close to 15 years, and doesn’t seem to have ever been occupied, from what I can tell. I’ve always wondered.

Lots of random ominous fire pictures with no context in the listing.

unless this is going to be someone's guest house...

Very odd listing. And I’ve asked a similar thing on this board before. Apparently the builder/seller is very proud of the home and will even take not making a dime to get the asking price he wants. I guess it just make him mad that no one wants his $2M house

I’ll bet you $100 that there is a historical block and numerous red tape on doing any significant demolition to this house.
As many have said, it’s a beautiful property. I live right down the road and think about it all the time. Would make for a great business like a B&B or event area

Hell no. You can get an actual livable home, and 2400sqft guest house on 304 acres in Hammond, USA for $2.7M
Zillow

the land subdivided is worth twice that

Probably wont allow you to tear the house down since it is “historic”

My assistant chauffeur was telling me he may buy it as a weekend getaway during football season.
Hell lately our getaway has been just not going to games. That’s a good getaway considering the current state of the program and direction that the university is trying to head.

I would, but not for $5 million.

This is a Highland road location, and the people willing to drop a few million to live there are not interested in 304acres in Hammond. Three rules of real estate, location, location, location!

The Claitor house just down Highland, sold last year for $2,000,000.
3.26 acres. It had an old house which has been torn down. The site is now being re-subbed into smaller lots for re-sale.
The Claitor house is across the street from Matt McKays house, a car dealer.

PRobably smells like mold, mildew and cigarette smoke inside.
Would it be possible to destroy the house and build a new one w/o harming those trees?
