id pay the 150$ or whatever it is for an outside company to go inspect and drive the car and they give you a detailed report.

But you now have something to compare it to...noise. handling, etc

Fair but it won't tell you things like if the steering is shite or the tranny is going, etc.

I agreed on a price with a dealer in Texas, it was contingent upon a mechanical inspection and a test drive

I bought a truck from Texas Auto Direct. Was a smooth transaction and I had no complaints. Drove to Houston to test drive the truck. I'd do it again without hesitation.

Purchased both of my SUVs from these guys. Spend 200 on an insured, mobile mechanic to give you one of those 200 point inspections. Well worth it. I flew out to Houston and drove it back. Great experience, would do it again.

Dealership was in Illinois and I'm in TN. Honestly I cannot remember the expense for shipping but it wasn't outrageous whatsoever

Has anyone used copart.com in their area ? You can have a certified inspection co. check out the vehicle and all before bidding.

Would you buy a used car online?

I bought a 2018 X2 all wheel drive online through Car Gurus for my son to start college. It had 906 miles on it and it was sitting on the car lot over 200 days at Automotive Avenues in New Jersey. Of course my main concern was the condition of the car...was it a lemon?

To address these concerns I paid a third party inspector $150 to go test drive it, give a thorough inspection and report back to me. It started off with a dead battery but after the battery was replaced the report came back perfect. Also the warranties on BMW cars are pretty good so that further addressed my concerns.

So I bought the car sight unseen for $34K with free shipping from New Jersey to Louisiana. IDK if I got a good deal or not but CarGurus said I was saving around $3K...so I felt okay about it.

My son as been driving it for 6 months now. He loves it and no issues.

+1 on lemon squad.

Used them on a jeep wrangler with 14,000 miles.

Just use Google to find an reputable mechanic in the area that'll do a full inspection. I spent $100 on one on a car in Dallas and they found some undisclosed issues that saved my skin. It's worth it.

Enterprise sells their better vehicles. You can go to the local lot and see what they have.

From our research over the past month, this is quite common for some reason. Even on very recent year models with low miles.

Twice ...first time was actually a new Ford Expedition. Ordered it and spec-ed it from a dealer in Oklahoma. It was delivered to Lamargue. New Orleans dealers at the time (1998) were asking 2-3k over sticker. Seemed like everyone in the neighborhood was getting one.

Most recently a 2015 Equus.. bought it based on pictures from a Shreveport dealer... it had a great Carfax and good price.... they drove it to me in Baton Rouge. I had never even been in an Equus... it had 24k miles left on the warranty, so I wasn't too concerned. A Baton Rouge dealer wanted more than two grand more for a similar vehicle. Acted like he was doing me a favor. Wife loves the car... just went out of warranty at 60k miles, so we will have to see how it holds up long term. Dealer said they sold a number of cars to people living here

I bought a used certified SUV off of autotrader about 10 years ago. Came from a dealer in Tampa. I brought the quote to 2 difference dealers in Baton Rouge in attempt to find a matching price on a similar vehicle and neither could come close. Worked out very well for me.

I would and I have.
I also sold one on craigslist.

As buyer, spend some money and have a professional car inspection service with mechanical capability. Have the owner do a video walkthrough for you to view.
Get a carfax.

Good luck

My step daughter just used Carvana and had a great experience. She had chosen and agreed on a car and delivery date with them, and the next day they called her to disclose that during their inspection the car would need a new transmission. They totally gave her the option to decline the car, and since they were upfront with her she wound up getting another with them that has been fine. I'm skeptical about how they tell you they inspect the used cars, but apparently they do.
