Would you buy a used car online?

I've been truck shopping lately and, unfortunately, I dont make six figures just yet so I am shopping used trucks. Would you buy from an online dealer and have the vehicle shipped to your house? The company I would buy through is Vroom and some of the reviews are stinkers but they have hundreds of millions in revenue per year and they offer an easy 7 day 250mile return policy. Assuming I take it immediately to get a full inspection are there any additional risks as opposed to buying used at a walk in dealership? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Not unless I could see it in person and drive it

I've read some bad reviews of Vroom, but mostly good reviews of Carvana. They both have about the same business model.

I'd have a hard time buying a car I couldn't put my eyes on first though.

Neighbor just bought a Toyota from carvana. Vehicle is a couple years old and in great shape. I wouldn’t buy one more than 4-5 years old but a newer model I wouldn’t hesitate.

What would driving it tell you if you have test driven the same vehicle at a dealer and you know it's the make/model you want? The 7 day 250mi return would give you time to drive it and see if there is any funny business.

It's got about 2000 left on the manufacturer's warranty. I could always get an extended but I wont. Personal preference.

I haven't explored this option. How was the experience for the sale? I think I would prefer a physical location so I could have a place to raise holy hell if it's a lemon.

Sales process was easy. I looked at it online with all the pictures, I talked with the sales agent, we discussed the price we came to an agreement. It had a warranty because of its age, so I could go to a local dealership if I needed to with a problem.

Why not? That's essentially what Amazon is for everything else.

We're in a similar boat. We've been looking for a new ride for the Mrs, and Carvana has really competitive prices and a huge inventory of the car we're looking at. We've test driven the particular make and model and know it's what we want, and they handle all the paperwork online and at your leisure. It seems like a no-brainer, but I still can't get past buying something that expensive without first seeing it.

I know there's a 7 day return window, but that seems like an even bigger hassle.

Have bought several over the years. There is a company called Lemon Squad (LINK that sends out ASE certified mechanics to inspect the car and they issue a detailed report for $160.

I mostly use CarGurus and I pay close attention to dealer ratings. Also, I obviously steer clear of the pushy sales people. Good luck.

How far away was the dealer? Shipping costs?

I bought a truck from Texas Auto Direct. Was a smooth transaction and I had no complaints. Drove to Houston to test drive the truck. I'd do it again without hesitation.
