My sis has a Sportage that seems decent.

What year is it? How many miles?

Mine is just fine.
I don't doubt that.
But if I was placing a bet on which car will last: I'd rather have a 10 year old Civic with 60k miles on it than a brand new Kia.
The upside is that the Civic will be half the cost of the Kia and be out of the shop less over the next 10 years.

Thanks for the responses. I don't know anything about them and don't know anyone who has owned one. I will buy a Toyota or Honda.

That was funny.
I laughed.
The car gets me from point A to point B.

Talked to someone the other day who owns a telluride. He brought the suv to a car wash and the hot water dissolved the glue for the trim. He picked up all the trim and brought it to Kia. Was told the glue was known to be defective and it would take a couple of months to resolve

Looks nice, no?

Civic is too small for me.

I get a lot of rental cars. Found Kia’s to not be a quality drive.

I’ve purchased 2 in my life. Both lasted well over 100k miles and I never had any mechanical issues

I understand, but the OP was comparing to the Kia Forte. (Which is basically a Honda Civic.)

Just because of the warranty they give you without paying extra for it
A lot of customer interactions with Kia/Hyundai are not positive when it comes to resolving warranty claims. They're shitty cars and parts aren't always available. Even if they are, you're not likely to get a great mechanic working on your Kia, because you have to take it to the dealer for warranty coverage.
You're almost always better off buying a good used vehicle than a Kia. Pick a reliable model year Honda or Toyota with low mileage and no accidents. You'll pay less for it and it will cost you less out of pocket to maintain it.

Kia Forte.
Would not buy. But the only compact I would ever consider would be toyota or Honday.
The new sportage is redesigned, larger and is just fine for me.
When I bought I had two choices, or wait a few months. Bronco and Kia.

Kia or Hyundai aren't vehicles I think about for my driving needs.

Our Carnival is nicer than any of the other minivans on the market. Fit and finish are good and the hybrid gets great mileage. It's new so cant speak to reliability. Had a Santa Fe years ago with minimal maintenance over 10 years. Family members have had other Hyundais and they've always lasted with basic maintenance.

I have a 2020 Santa Fe with the notorious 2.4 engine. My ex neighbor was a mechanic at the local Hyundai dealership. He told me to change oil every 3500 miles using a high quality full synthetic. Use only the factory OEM oil filter. Do a CRC intake valve cleaning every three oil changes, change oil immediately after the CRC cleaning. Change the PCV valve every 10 k miles. Burn only Top Tier gasoline.
I'm at 62k miles and so far, so good. I drove to Chicago and back and averaged 35-36 mpg on the interstate. When I bought it, it cost about $8k less than a comparable Honda CRV or Toyota Rav 4.
