I’m currently listening to a podcast series on the French Revolution and that is exactly what happened. The original revolutionaries, the ones who started it, were eventually deemed not revolutionary enough, arrested, convicted, and killed by the new government.

Bingo.

We already have people in this country, today, who consider their fellow citizens “the enemy” just based on differing political beliefs. The polarization in this country is pretty high right now and I’m supposed to trust that this data won’t be used by the “other team”?

Just think of how much more efficiently Stalin’s purge, or Hitler’s final solution would have been if they had real-time tracking info. I’ll say it again but the OP really needs to brush up on 20th century history.

EDIT: TigerFanInSouthland beat me to it.

Would you be in favor of people having a type of chip implanted into them (let's say it cannot be tampered with or removed) that could be used to track anyone in the United States so that it can be determined who was at the scene when a significant crime (like murder or robbery) occurred?
No way in hell, besides I've already got my smartphone.

Real question is are you in favor?

If someone you knew and liked were murdered, would you trade some anonymous person *maybe* knowing you stopped by for ice cream somewhere if it meant the killer would be identified and caught instead of getting away, never facing the consequences, and possibly murdering someone else?

You don’t get it. It’s not about now, it’s about protecting liberty and freedom in the future. Government will always, ALWAYS, abuse this power and use it to bend to their wills.

Only multiple charged felons would I be okay with this. Someone who has proven over and over they can not be trusted.

This.

I’m sure no one in DC would give a shite about some schmuck having an affair across town, but they damn sure would dig up info on CEOs of every Fortune500 company, celebrities, politicians, etc. The extortion and coercion potential for this kind of thing is outrageous.

Convicted felons, sure.

Give an inch, they take a mile. This would make it easier for them to roll it out to all. Additionally, they have paid their dues.

Plus, a program like this allows them to work the kinks out before introducing it to the general public. We've seen it time and time again.
