Would the world be a better place without online anonymity?

If you could go back to the beginning of the World Wide Web & mandate that all public online posting/uploading had to be connected to known/confirmed identity-would you do it & would the world be better off by now because of it?

Well for starters, please list your real name and post an IRL pic of yourself and we’ll see how committed you are to this idea and how seriously you take this question.

What, so Mandie and the Gravy train can try to get us all fired for hurt feelings?

I didn't say that I want to implement the policy. Simply asked the OT's thought on the hypothetical.

There would be a lot more fights and shootings.

Kind of a dumb question to ask on a forum in which no one uses their real name.

To answer your question, no. It wouldn’t be better. People need a place to voice their opinions freely without fear of consequences. I view it as a part of free speech.

I think that’s his point, though. So many people here post terrible things they would never say around people that knew them. Anonymity means no social consequences.

The world would be a better place without the internet. This much I do know
Posted on 5/20/20 at 7:08 pm to forever lsu30
Nope, would be better as the complete opposite, actions should always have consequences.
