Atlanta is more expensive.

Really? It seems pretty expensive to live good in BR or NOLA metros. Surely the atl suburbs aren’t the same

In a place like Marietta for example, everyone uses the public school systems right? Good places to raise a family and such?

Yes and no. Private schools are very popular in Atlanta. But there are a lot of great public schools as well.

Undoubtedly Atlanta is better. Although idk what you mean by south LA. I would be very happy in certain parts of New Orleans, despite the city's overall reputation on this board and elsewhere.

Move in between Marietta and Roswell. Great schools in that area.

Marietta, Roswell and anything up 400(Alpharetta, Milton South Forsyth, Johns Creek, etc...)

couldn't disagree more. I commute to Atlanta often for work and pleasure and I've hit some horrible traffic. The BR traffic folks on here refer to is nothing compared to major cities.

I can't imagine moving anywhere other than Jackson MS, that wouldn't be a HUGE upgrade to anything in La.

Beaumont and Montgomery suck pretty badly. But yeah Atlanta has the best white collar job market in the south by far with the best suburbs.

Second tier white collar job market would be Memphis, Charlotte, Birmingham, and Nashville. In 20 years Charlotte and Nashville will be bigger, Birmingham and Memphis will be about the same as they are today.

Then we have 3rd tier Mobile, Columbia, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge. These are all kind of hanging. New Orleans-Baton Rouge area has potential with industrial expansion and tourism but they won’t be competing with Atlanta in my lifetime when it comes to white collar jobs or a really corporate presence.

Then places like Jackson, Montgomery, or Shreveport round out the bottom tier. They are sort of smaller-mid sized metros that are mostly stagnant or (in Jackson’s case) declining. I wound not move there unless I had family ties to those areas.

If you never have to leave the suburbs for work, it might not be that bad, but Atlanta is aweful. Definitely a sideways move if you still have to commute.

So would I, but the atl metro has better employment opportunities, better affordable housing, etc. It’s not saying New Orleans would suck to live in when you say a place is better.

It’s absolutely better than BR though.

now I do. But BR, NOLA, north shore are all pretty different. If you were to ask me if living in Lakeshore or upper garden district were comparable to nice areas of Atlanta I would say yes. Idk much about the schools though.

Oh bullshite. I’ve driven thru the entire DFW and Houston metros and NEVER hit anything resembling what we deal with on the daily basis in Baton Rouge. Br metro has less than one million. Atl metro has way more than that. For its size, br traffic is ten times worse than it should be. That’s the truth

which is why I asked what he meant by south LA. That's a pretty broad area.

I wouldn't move to BR for a 100% pay increase, though.

I'm not saying it's not bad. I'm just saying Atlanta rush hour is worse.

You have to understand Atl though. it takes a half hour to go anywhere, even if there isnt any traffic. I ride the 400 corridor, which isnt the worst, but its up there. An hour commute from Alpharetta is the norm for rush hour to midtown, but non rush hour its 35-40 minutes. So a 20-30 minute delay or so isnt that bad IMO for rush hour. Especially since non rush hour you drive 80+mph

Yes unless you work downtown/midtown. If you live in Alphretta and work down there you will be in the car 3 hours a day on your commute just on a normal day.

Actually the rebuilt katrina ghetto looks pretty nice

But there is still major ghetto in atl.

But if you like major cities, atl is a nice town to live

The infrastructure, schools and overall government have a lot to do with why Georgia is a likely move. I’m done waiting on the LA gov to get it right. It ain’t happening
