Any time before modern conveniences but if a specific time, a few years before the Black Death, or in Poland or Russia in the 1920s. 80% of boys born in the Soviet Union in 1923 did not survive WW2.

1900.

You could’ve been drafted into TWO world wars, lived through the Great Depression, and died during the reign of Carter the Not So Great.

Talk about taking some L’s

Just being Polish in general sucked during this time. Like 40% of Polish women were gang raped from 1944-1945.

Forgot about that stat, but that’s fricking brutal. They’d only be 22 if they made it until the end of the war.

Widely regarded to be the “Worst Year in History”

quote:

A mysterious fog plunged Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia into darkness, day and night—for 18 months. "For the sun gave forth its light without brightness, like the moon, during the whole year," wrote Byzantine historian Procopius. Temperatures in the summer of 536 fell 1.5°C to 2.5°C, initiating the coldest decade in the past 2300 years. Snow fell that summer in China; crops failed; people starved. The Irish chronicles record "a failure of bread from the years 536–539." Then, in 541, bubonic plague struck the Roman port of Pelusium, in Egypt. What came to be called the Plague of Justinian spread rapidly, wiping out one-third to one-half of the population of the eastern Roman Empire and hastening its collapse, McCormick says.

I was thinking of the same areas in the next century when you would be a child during the plague.

If you survive you’re in the eastern block.

Either way, your way of life was completely ruined if not outright ended if you grew up in these times with these factors. If you made it through the Black Death though and you were a peasant, it tended to be a big boom for you since there was a shite ton of land that had no owners and the nobility that survived had to hand it out like confetti.
