Working on your car by yourself.

I have an old car that needs a valve cover gasket, a leak in the hydraulic steering sorted, and thrust arm bushings replaced...and I’ve got the time now...but very little knowledge or powered tools...and no garage.
Thinking one job at a time. Thrust arm bushings first? I could leave it apart if I need more components than I thought, and I should be able to see the steering rack from there.
IDK, is it crazy? It’s mine, and no one in their right mind would let me work on theirs, so what the hell. My only concern is fricking it up.

Can’t be worse than it is now. I get some serious death wobbles at interstate speeds...I just brake by downshifting.

You can prob only do the valve cover gasket, possibly the power steering leak but there’s no chance you can do the thrust arm bushings without the right tools. It’s a lot easier to buy the whole thrust arm with the new bushings in them.

none of those things are extremely expensive other than maybe the steering leak depending on what they find. i would think you are looking at around $2000-2500 at a shop.

Google what you want to do. You can find detailed instructions on just about everything through car forums and YouTube.
After looking at the necessary work for each job, you can decide if it's something you think you can tackle own your own.

Probably a faulty O-ring in either the pressure or inlet hose. Not a hard job if the latter or if the pump is leaking. Unless it's on a German car.

Get a Haynes or Chiltons book? It’s what I did as a kid when working on my vehicles, but that was prior to having to have a damn computer science or engineering degree to work on a vehicle now.
