Sitting around picking lint out of my belly button is vastly superior to work social functions.

These are NOT my friends and 99% are not on the possible friends list. These are people I am paid to associate with in regards to profitable endeavors. These are people whom I am either gonna fire or be fired by, doesn't qualify as a friend or social networking asset.

If they're paying you, go... if not, don't. I'm not participating in anything at work for free.

Or maybe you could put money in their pockets to keep them from quitting. I know it's a crazy idea

$350 every 6 weeks or so is roughly 3k per year, you think that 3k per year split amongst however many people are splitting that $350 tab is going to make any sort of difference in whether or not they stay at a company? You're going to leave a company because you could make $500 more per year somewhere else?

How else am I supposed to find out if the new office whore really wants it?

Yeah, we’ll pass out the $75 per person at the end of the year, it’ll go over just as well as a jelly of the month club membership

I’m not sure if this is a millennial thing or what. But there seem to be an increased trend Ive noticed where younger people, especially the women, come up with all sorts of ways to organize these “fun social days” where people leave work and go do some activity like a bunch of children on a field trip. Can’t people just put in their time, get their work done and go home?

I really hate anything "social" that occurs during non-work time, for the most part. At my organization, it's typically a "lunch with the higher ups" where it's painful small talk and arse kissing of the higher ups.

I like my immediate team, but the higher ups are always nice to our faces, and then screw us over with ridiculous, out-of-touch policies behind our backs. I just want my lunch break to get away from it all and have some alone time. I don't need to be bs'ing with a Karen about my weekend or the weather when I'm supposed to have the hour off.

I work for a corporation who could give two shits about anyone's morale. I can't tell you how far it would go if they would pay for all of us to go get shitfaced every once in awhile.

Be happy with what you got.

Mine used to be cool, would fly us out to Atlanta for the Christmas party if we wanted to go, had outings to Top Golf, dinner with drinks, etc… when we’d go on client trips. All of that changed with Covid, we haven’t traveled for work in 5+ years, and they cut every corner they possibly can now.

Would you like to go back to the Good Old Days when employees were expected to participate in company softball teams, company bowling leagues, company picnics, etc etc?

Nothing wrong with getting to know some coworkers outside of the office from time to time, and sometimes it helps to know each other better if you're working on group projects under strict deadlines.

Wouldn't want it to be a weekly disruption, though.

I literally cannot stand the meeting ice breakers that my current supervisor makes us do.

This isn't second grade, I don't have all day, let's get on with the freaking meeting, not spend 10 minutes talking bs.

The problem with these functions/parties is that I get the stink eye when I don't go. It's stated as optional, then a bunch of us don't go and the bosses get pissy about it. I'm not hanging around these clowns unless I'm on the clock

I endured such BS from a company many years ago. "Voluntary attendance" at company organized social functions was all too frequent. Was glad to move on from such garbage.
