Sort of a spinoff on the corporate buzzwords thread a couple of days ago.

I can't stand the common usage of greetings in emails. If I'm reaching out to someone for the first message in a thread, yeah a greeting is pretty standard, but after that what's the point?

Example:

VolsOut4Harambe,

Yes, 3:00 works for a call. We will discuss and align on our initiatives then.

I understand using a greeting for every message is a polite formality but it's annoyingly unnecessary.

I put a greeting and signature in every email so if I'm ever called into court there's no lawyer man misrepresenting what I said or who it was to

May be time for a vacation if something like this is getting you worked up.

Absolutely guilty of this I start every work email with Good morning/afternoon/evening. I removed this greeting from a back and forth email chain with a Gunny once and I got an arse chewing for it

If it's a new email chain, use a greeting and signature (obviously).

If it requires a lot of back and forth (and it's not a client/customer), I drop the greeting/signature.

If it requires more than 5 emails and isn't important, add that person's face to my dart board.

Hi Ingeniero,
Do you often find yourself in court defending emails you've written?

Thanks,

I rarely use a greeting past the first email. I always sign-off with a "Best" "Regards" or "thanks"

As long you don't end your email with "Please advise" then we are all good.

OPB,

Not as of yet, but when that day comes I'll be prepared.

Yeah, I had a co-worker send me an email asking me to do something and I screwed up with the signature part in my response. I was pretty embarrassed. My response:

Chris, what you are asking me to do is not in my job description. In fact, it is YOUR job. So you can sincerely frick off.

Sincerely,

SET

You see how I messed that up? I already said sincerely. I should have said thanks or something. Oh well, I’ll learn.

What I can't believe is that you use your TD handle for your name at work. What an idiot.

to that!

I'd also advise those that are obtuse to personal/professional normalcy please NEVER EVER use ASAP. Everyone I know fricking thinks any person who uses this all the time is a total frickface.

Try "as soon as you get the time" or "I need this within the next 30 minutes so as soon as you get a chance it would be appreciated" or something similar.

100% this. I work in purchasing and everything is needed ASAP. Then I walk in our warehouse and the stuff that was needed right away is still sitting there weeks later.

Every Limey I've dealt with signs with "cheers". I just assume they're over there drinking.

What's good,

I'll need that project by 3. Please let me know if there's an issue.

All right, buddy. Zip it up and zip it out.
