I got this at a garage sale for $10. It’s 1”x15”x5+‘. There’s about 4.5’ of squarable (if that’s a word) wood.
I want to make a bar out of it (between two bourbon barrels).
I have no clue what to do, school me

Set two barrels about 4.5’ apart and lay peckie Cyprus on top.

If you get tired of trying to fool with it I’ll take it off your hands for $30

Don’t spill your drink on it.

It’s cypress. It’s treated.

That should work but a small investment in a hot glue gun will more than pay for itself down the road.

The first thing you have to decide is if you are going to spend the time and have access to the tools/machines to make it a real woodworking project or if you are happy with just a craft project.

I would do as little to it as possible.

I put some sinker cypress on my bar, not pecky. Put Lent seed oil on it. Came out nice, oil helps cure it a bit.

I’m happy with craft project. I don’t have the tools for a serious project. How serious can it be with a 5’ piece of wood?

Btw, what would you value this piece of wood? If it’s worth several hundred dollars, I wouldn’t use it on a craft project.

I see your autocorrect is Catholic. Linseed AKA flaxseed.

For a bar, I would probably pour epoxy. A bar is a big pour for a novice working with epoxy though.

I also got two other pieces of cypress at the garage sale yesterday day, a 4x4 x9’ beam and a 2x12 x 8’. I was thinking of using one of these to support the bar. They are not “pecky” cypress

I basically want to stain the holes dark, fill with resin, light stain the rest, and polyurethane

I dont get the love for pecky cypress, I think its ugly. But it goes for 15-20 a board foot. You got a hell of a deal on it.

You say you want to stain it. Before you do that just pour some mineral spirits on it and it will show you how dark it would look with just poly on it.

The holes will stay dark. Buy some tabletop fasteners to attach it to the barrels. Thats the easiest way to do what you want.
