Do you feel the full body mri has no use at all? Is there a more cost effective way to look for asymptomatic conditions that can be more effectively treated before they become symptomatic?

Anyone here get this done? I've been considering some elective medical tests but hard to know whats worth paying for.
I go to craft body scan here in Nashville for a full body CT once a year. If you buy packages you can get the cost down under $1k per session.

I've got an organ for her if she misses her spleen
A spleen is about 3-5" long so you might have to give her your organ twice

$2500 a pop without insurance. Perhaps she's getting kickback commissions to be the full body MRI spokeswoman.

Insurance is almost never going to cover a full body MRI for general checkup
So its something someone would have to come out of pocket for
They should though. It’s essentially the pinnacle of preventative care. Not saying it needs to be done every year but every 2 or something shouldn’t be out of the question. Then high risk people can be yearly with their annual visits.

this is a rehash of a previous post but...
I thought I had a kidney stone a few yrs ago ('21). had all the symptoms and I'd had one before in 2010, so they sent be to get a CT scan.
No kidney stone, but the radiologist commented on all kinds of stuff going on in my torso. small stones here and there but the most serious was severely enlarged prostate.
total billed was 437 for CT and 142 for Dr. to read it

They're really not. MRIs are expensive, time consuming to perform and time consuming to read, especially a whole body. That is the complete opposite of what you want in a preventative screening exam.

Heart Disease runs in my family. So every few years I get a CT scan of my heart. I think last time is was around $100 or so. The money is worth the piece of mind for me to know I don't have blockages forming. I
f anyone is interested in that, look up heart scan and your location to find results. I get it done at my local heart hospital.
However, I have never done a full body MRI.

had to have a full body MRI a few years back, reinforced how bad my claustrophobia has become

Annual full body MRIs for anyone over 40 is going to become the norm eventually.
Not if insurance has anything to say about it.

How well are they at detecting pancreatic, prostate, colon cancer and such?

Had this done last year. Found two coronary aneurysms, firm believer in yearly tests.

MRIs are often cheaper if you pay cash and go to an Imaging Center (Not a Hospital). Just gotta get in contact with the Manager of the place and negotiate a price.
^^^THIS
This also applies to many procedures at hospitals. If you walk in there with cash and ask to speak to the finance manager, you would be amazed what level you can negotiate the cost down. I know a dude that only carries a catastrophic policy on himself and pays cash for everything minor he has done. He goes in there like he's buying a used car.

Is that the actual cost, or the inflated value that adds in all the administrative, insurance billing departments, and other government red tape that amplifies any medical costs?
If Dr. Joe Blow had an MRI machine at his clinic and a tech to run it, how much would he have to charge a year to run it and make a profit.

I HATE insurance companies with the fire and passion of a thousand suns.......but with that being said, they should never agree to pay for these types of things. You have the cash and you want to do it for yourself, by all means go ahead. But insurance has no role here. You think healthcare in the US is already expensive....
