In May, Judith Shulevitz wrote in the New York Times about how women are still responsible for most of the “worry work” in their homes—a type of labor that requires “large reserves of emotional energy to stay on top of it all.”

I don't hate women like many on this board, but this is preposterous. Arguing that you deserve more compensation because of your flaws would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.

if you want to get deep, most people who demand society create more economic value for them, do so b/c of their flaws

Lastly frick all that bull shite about the work they do at the home. Men do an absolute ton around most households, but because no one has built a cult of personality around yardwork, managing investments, and repairing things it isn't seen the same way as being a stay at home mom.

They always seem to leave out the little things like mowing the lawn, weed eating, fix and repairing odd and end stuff. If it involves a shovel, fuggitaboutit.

How did I know those articles would be from Slate or Huffpo before I opened them?

A few months ago, I was introduced to the concept of “Emotional Labor,” from sex workers who were tweeting about the topic. These women talked about how they get compensated for their sexual labor, but a huge part of their job is emotional work (listening, validating, pretending to feel something for the sake of the other), which is assumed by the male clients to be given for free.

Ok, so when I want her to STFU so I can PIIHB, I'm negotiating a discount from now on.

I do just about everything except laundry. I work about 75% as much as my wife so I have more free time. I'm off between 3-7PM any given day, my wife gets home at 4ish and works until 9-10 most nights. Maybe I should join in on today.

I had to look up WTF they were referring to and of course there are articles on it and women wanting to be paid for it.

I manage a team of about 25, 24 are women.

If they all have this emotional labor, then isn't MY emotional labor of managing their emotional labor 24x worse than each individual on the team?

Brb, going to go demand a raise to be paid for it!!!

The term Feminism has evolved to the point where most women don't want to be called "feminists" even though they share the ideals of equality for women.

It's almost a derogatory term anymore.

After spending a few decades outside the feminist limelight, emotional labor made a big comeback in 2015, appearing in a hashtag campaign and in a number of highly trafficked and discussed essays, one of which made the case for emotional labor as “feminism’s next frontier.” While Hochschild focused mainly on emotional labor in the workplace, today’s conversation is more wrapped up in the costs of loving, worrying, and encouragement in our personal lives.

As a white female I can only conclude one thing after reading that entire huffpo piece:

I feel very sorry for white males. As "good" as you have it, despite your background, the color of your skin and fact that you have a penis makes you among the most hated and deplored creatures on this Earth.

There's so much I could say about that article but I'll leave it at that. Feminism does not represent me. Nothing but constant victimhood and woe is me.

See my previous post. You represent the it perfectly.

Modern feminism does not represent you, but I'm sure the ideals of equality for women do.
