I would absolutely save children first. I think the reason women are included is because the children need their mothers.

I’d save my own wife and kids first then myself.
Someone else’s kids i would let go ahead of me. I couldn’t live with myself knowing a kids life ended because of my selfishness. Their wife? frick that.
I get the social construct and they probably figured women needed to be their for their kids to raise and nurture them and they could find another husband to be the breadwinner. Considering the times I’d argue it was more important to save the kids and their father as the father most likely made the money and paid the bills
