The Broward County Sheriff's Office says a Sunrise Police SWAT team went to an apartment Friday where an armed woman had barricaded herself inside and was threatening to kill herself. Sheriff's spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said in a press release Saturday the woman stopped communicating with officers, so the SWAT team entered the apartment. She says the officers encountered the woman and shots were fired. She died at the scene. No officers were hurt.

While ironic and easy fodder for the cop haters, I am never sure what they want police to do in these situations. Leave an emotionally disturbed armed person alone so they can possibly kill a neighbor? Surround the house, kick all the neighbors out of their houses and then just wait forever? Send brain control waves into the house forcing a surrender?

Why did the police enter the apartment, was there a law being broken, they were not invited in, was there a warrant? This is not a uncommon situation, and they don't usually end this way, seems like the police escalated the situation without a need to do so.
