Serious question, was she endangering anyone?
I mean sure once the police entered her home she was armed amd dangerous, but if a sole person is threatening suicide, why go in if no one else is threatened?
98% of the time women are looking for attention.

While ironic and easy fodder for the cop haters, I am never sure what they want police to do in these situations. Leave an emotionally disturbed armed person alone so they can possibly kill a neighbor? Surround the house, kick all the neighbors out of their houses and then just wait forever? Send brain control waves into the house forcing a surrender?
This type of situation occurs several hundred times a month in the U.S. most don't make the news because the police departments send a couple of officers and mental health professionals, instead of a swat team.

Its much easier to just kill them instead of bringing them back alive. Its a matter of efficiency.

Happens often.
DON'T call the cops if your family member is struggling.

An officer from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and another from the Boiling Spring Lakes police department showed up to the house soon after. Eventually, a third officer from the Southport police department entered the home as well, and ordered the use of tasers to subdue Vidal. According to Wilsey, Vidal was pinned on the ground by two of the officers when a third said, “we don’t have time for this,” and shot Vidal, killing him.

The cop that fired the shots claims that Sierra had “lunged” toward him with the knife in hand, and that the shooting was justified. Witnesses have not corroborated this claim, however, and say that the officer acted rashly.

Andrew Messina was armed with a .357 Magnum when a sniper shot him inside his Towne Lake home in May. But the 16-year-old's parents hoped that police would send someone to calm the high school student who was threatening to kill himself after getting a poor grade that day. Instead, they saw a large deployment of heavily armed police descend on their home.

SMH
Should be manslaughter charges against the LEOs. They knew the woman was threatening suicide and had a gun. They storm her apt and "feared for their lives". Send in trained professionals, not Neanderthals who can't do simple trigonometry.

suicide by cop isn't a new thing.

Yea she was armed, but threatening only herself according to the article. Why send a SWAT team? This is a situation that needed deescalation and they brought a SWAT team
The article is so brief so there's either more to the story, or the cops fricked up by bringing a SWAT team.

Because some of these people when they don't get the reaction from the police they want (armed confrontation/SBC) will escalate the situation by threatening or hurting others to force the police's hand.

Again, I refer to the key detail of the story....
She was ready to commit suicide. Why the frick would they send SWAT? She needed help..
They literally sent the opposite of that.

Was there anyone else in the house? Did SWAT know she was armed?
If she was alone and they knew she was armed, they royally fricked up IMO. Did they not try to call her and let her talk to someone who specializes in suicide prevention?
If she kills herself she kills herself. Whatever. Can't save em all.
But if they just busted up in there and killed her without trying to save her, well then, that's just horrible.

Got to be cheaper than physician assisted suicide after the deductible increases under Obamacare!

Funny you say this while quoting

So 98% percent of the time shite works out without incident but you see an opportunity to make a blanket statement being negative.
And no, every police department doesn't have a mental health specialist on stand by 24/7 to be escorted in to negotiate with these type people.
You wanna talk about the problem with police? Let's go. A guy with minimal education, minimal training, and minimal pay is expected to be a marriage counselor, role model, Seal Team 6, and mental health professional along with multiple other suits they are supposed to wear. If you really believe these guys wanted to go in there and kill someone rather than resolve the situation peacefully and get her help then you are the one with a problem

I can't help it; this story gave me a chuckle.

Bet she won't try that again

She probably thought she'd be on LivePD but knew she fricked up when no camera crew showed up

armed woman
That one word changes the whole dynamic of the story and you know it.
That's two words.
