So it's essentially the safest or near safest it's ever been then. And as I stated, much safer than it was in previous generations.

Nationwide. Why is it so hard to grasp that with the explosion of social media you hear about this shite more even though it is less prevalent? In the 90s you wouldn't hear about this shite unless you turned on the nightly news and it happened locally or was a famous case.

The violent crime rate is around what it was in 2016. It's lower than it was in 2003, but higher than what it was in 2013.

In the US. The 70s to the early noughties, the violent crime rate was extremely high. Even with the recent uptick in crime, the overall rate is much lower than it was even in the early 2000s.

Im sure the boomers will be here to tell us how much safer everything was in the 80s though. Why bother with statistics when they have the mainstream media telling them about how much more crime there is these days?

I’ll be honest. My level of sadness is directly correlated to the hotness of the victims in cases like this.

According to that graph the 50’s and early 60’s really were the good ole days. Well that and the Bush years.

quote:the rate in the 50s and 60s was around 4.6 homecides per 100k. Then in the 70s it went up to 10 homocides per 100k. Now it is around 6.5 homocides per 100k and people act like it's the end of the world.
According to that graph the 50’s and early 60’s really were the good ole days.
For reference, the homicide rate has been estimated to be over 30 per 100,000 people in 1700, dropping to under 20 by 1800.
I bet people were panicking on tigerdroppings in the 1700s.
Our advancements in Healthcare have made it so you are a lot less likely to die in 2023 than in 1955, regardless of the fact u have a 0.002% higher chance of being murdered. Also remember that most homocides are committed by someone the victim knows.

Hair cuts could be used to identify violent criminals much like dna.
It seems like most perps. of assault/murder are wearing a Mahonies style haircut, while you almost never see a crew cut person involved in violence. Does this type of facial recognition make sense ?

What good does carrying do if you are ambushed from behind with no chance to react? Illusion of safety.
1. No one would ever say that carrying makes you safe, it just gives you an edge, vigilance is key.
2. It’s better to have an edge than not regardless of the chance of success.

I just came to say this chick wasn’t really ‘hiking’. I mean I guess in some liberalized city person terms she was. But that’s ridiculous for the police to use that term here. She was on a running/ walking trail in some public land in the city. its basically just a running trail.
