the rate in the 50s and 60s was around 4.6 homecides per 100k. Then in the 70s it went up to 10 homocides per 100k. Now it is around 6.5 homocides per 100k and people act like it's the end of the world.

The thing about homicide rates is that the person needs to actually die. The main reason homicide rates don't look so bad is that hospitals and EMT professionals have become a LOT better at saving the lives of victims who have been shot, stabbed, runover, etc. 50 or even 20 years ago these people would have been dead and gone down in the books as another murder.

Look at all the stories you see in the press. 20 people shot at party, one dead. 47 people shot over the 4th of July weekend in Chicago, 12 dead. That's because of modern trauma teams, life flight helicopters, ambulance equipment and surgical advancements. The doctors will tell you we see more and more victims but we're a lot better at saving them now.

That motherfricker was on probation for robbery and armed robbery.

If you commit armed robbery you should get the death penalty.

So it's essentially the safest or near safest it's ever been then. And as I stated, much safer than it was in previous generations.

Part of crime statistics is actual arrest and prosecution.

There is currently a revolving door of criminals in and out that constantly have charges downgraded and even dismissed.

These soft on crime DAs that are a cancer to this society is part of that reduction in crime statistics. No charge and prosecution… no +1 for the crime statistics.

The data you view is flawed.

You actually believe it’s safer to walk the south side Chicago now than it was in the 80’s? Seven mile road in Detroit? Frayser in Memphis? Is New Orleans safer now than the 80’s? 70’s? What about San Francisco? How is it doing now compared to the 80’s? Portland? Seattle??

Don’t let manipulation of data manipulate you.

Low income house/apartment near upscale neighborhood. Diversifying America.

Maybe I don't understand graphs but it looks to me like homicides leveled off between 2016 and 2020, and started spiking after 2020. Interesting

Chalk this up as another win for Progressive voters.

One of their foot soldiers gets out of jail early, terrorizes the citizenry, then kills the right kind of person.

Win win all the way around for leftists.

Im sure the boomers will be here to tell us how much safer everything was in the 80s though.

Much. The gangs had fewer neighborhoods to control. No place is safe today.

The dysfunction has a much larger footprint.

Yep, you can no longer distance yourself from the shitheads if you live in the same city. They've been given the keys to the kingdom.

You will not be able to have those who support the expansion of Section 8 into safe areas admit that their ideas are terrible.

This isn't about helping the poor for them at all. Their motivations are much more sinister, and this murder is a great example of that.

Its a revolving door.

Mass incarceration helped in the 90s (Thanks Joe Biden) and we could use it once more.

If we could get the midnight basketball going again, he would be too tired to be up at 11 am. We have failed this young man.
