Good luck using that in court, I'm sure it'll turn out well.

#1 rule of shooting someone is to make sure they can't say anything afterwards. That way, it's only your story that the cops get to hear

The daughter would have a story to tell also.

Should I be surprised that the OT thinks that the penalty for raising a daughter who makes poor decisions with which you don't agree should be death... for the person with whom she is making the bad decision?

Shooting the daughter doesn't seem like the best of ideas here.

She shouldn't have shot him. That's some heat of the moment shite, she probably thought the old guy was 100% to blame for everything but didn't consider the daughter might be to blame too. Could have killed him.

The mom and the guy should both go to jail.

Yeah - I'm going to go ahead and predict she does no jail time after a plea/trial.

Really going out on a limb with that one...

It's Oklahoma. If the girl is 16, the law says she can frick whoever she wants.

Look, I'm not advocating this by any means. I'm a father.

But that doesn't make me a dumbass. The dude was coming over 3x a week.

At some point the daughter has some responsibility to not be a whore.

I think the drinking age being 21 is ludicrous too. Does that mean I think every 18 year old should be getting shitfaced?

you can't just go around shooting people.

She wasn't "going around" shooting people. She shot one guy, who was in her house, who she possibly didn't know (?), and whose intentions she was unsure of, not to mention she may have even reasonably believed her daughter was in danger. That sounds like grounds for a killing to me, and would have been had that happened in my house. His consequences and my child's safety take precedence over whatever consequences may come out of it for me. Just my opinion.

Edit: the article did say he came over 3x a week, but after the mom left for work. Perhaps she didn't know about it and surprised them and was genuinely in fear.

I don't think the Uncle Merv graphic is accurate for all the states but, yes, in lots of states the age of consent is 16 years old.

I have no problem with her shooting this guy in fear for her underage daughter

Me either, but that may be a difficult defense pending the daughter's description of the event. Being pissed off that he continues to come over and wanting him gone =/= fear for her daughter's life, so we'll see.

The only issue I see is that she needs to improve her shooting skills.

Story Time:

I once had a job that required me to make semi-annual trips to local prisons. The first time I went to one local state prison I had the front gate opened for me by a prisoner. I thought it was highly unusual but found out that the guy was a trustee who had keys to virtually every lock in the prison. He was a great guy who had come home one day to find his wife in bed with another man. He shot and killed the other man.

Crimes of passion are still crimes.
