I know there is a poster here who usually tells us 30 minutes or so before an announcement is made about LP schools

Schools are closed in St Mary Parish, so I'm sure everything in and around I 10 will be shut down.

Special 18z sounding indicates continued cooling in the low levels of the atmosphere, but the mid-levels remain rather warm. 850mb temperatures cooled nearly 5C from the 12z sounding, and a small layer of air extending for less than one thousand feet has fallen below freezing at this level. However, temperatures from 800mb up through 650mb remain quite warm with only a 1C drop in temperatures observed at 700mb. As a result, a signifcant warm nose of around 3.5C remains in place at this level. Until this warm nose aloft drops to 2C or less, the prospect of freezing precipitation will remain limited

"Warm nose" in place still a little above ground level but column in general cooling off. Need that 800-650mb layer to cool off.

while I may not be the best person to be giving out advice

I'd say just start planning now for schools to be closed and hope and pray that they end up staying open

but with some areas already closing... I'd imagine by the end of the day most will be closed for tomorrow
