I went to the grocery before work this morning as to avoid the crazy after work today. Shelves were still fully stocked.

Part of an email I received this morning:
Sounds to me like they will be attempting to keep things open as opposed to shutting down before the ice gets here.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Early this morning DOTD Secretary Sherri LeBas contacted LAGC and asked if the construction industry can step up and work with The Department in dealing with the cold icing conditions facing Louisiana. Particularly, what DOTD needs are machinery and people committed to assist the state in the moving of materials that would keep our state bridges open and the possibility of scraping ice from those structures.
Sounds to me like they will be attempting to keep things open as opposed to shutting down before the ice gets here.

You all act like this area is used to something like this. Like the cities infrastructures are built to handle this sort of thing every winter.

I'd like to remind northerners how the residents of the Northeast reacted to a very minor hurricane called "Sandy".
If y'all can milk that shite, we can milk this. Nobody here is used to icestorms and snow just like northerners aren't used to a fricking hurricane.

Were you out watching retards driving in this shite? No thanks. I go to the store for 20 damn minutes (1-10 is closed obviously), on the way back, there was a wreck on airline. Ok..I'll just take old Jefferson back to my house, no biggee. The bridge over the manchac had a head on collision AND a hit in run. Over the course of the day my father almost got ran off the road and I almost got rear ended by a retard (he was frustrated with the overpass being closed over siegan and was hauling arse)
Just fricking idiots. Surprised there wasn't a noteworthy death toll.

Looks like the airlines are starting to cancel some flights. United's cancelled the last IAH-BTR and IAH-MSY tonight along with an ORD-MSY. AA's cancelled a DFW-MSY tonight. Delta's got two ATL-MSY, LGA-MSY and SLC-MSY cancelled tonight. I'm sure there's gonna be a lot more

Yeah, that 2" of snow and 0.31" of ice sure is a doozy. How will anyone ever manage to make it til Friday alive?

Oh Lord. He just asked roadway contractors for essentially a last second, super critical change order. Taxpayers better hold on to their butts.

You serious right now? Not many people, including most northerners are used to an inch of ice. This could be absolutely devastating.

indeed, but no need to close the roads 12 hours before any precipitation. My lord.

That's just it rocket. People were driving outside like normal rainy weather. You absolutely cannot do that on ice. If you have never driven and hit a patch of ice, it's quite an experience. People up north are used to it. The act of driving on icy roads is quite simple, just to many boneheaded people out there that don't understand or are too stupid. Probably won't see as many accidents this time, but..I wouldn't be surprised if there was just as many or more then last time.

Or last summer when the whole north east was bitching about their heat wave.

fricking tropical storm made out to be hurricane Katrina because of New York.
They got jeallous. And plus, Obama was up for re-election. NBC-owned Weather Channel and the rest of the big media had to create a crisis.

Exactly why it isn't happening. This winter storm stuff is new to us, but we're not going full retard (yet).
