My school (k-12) gave away a car every year, so yeah... I know a bunch of people that have won car raffles.

My dad won a boat.

Used to be good friends with a manager at Peake BMW. They did a raffle several years ago at a fundraiser and never gave the car to the winner

The tickets were several hundred dollars a piece.

Gotta pay taxes is all I know.

Sometimes, you just win a lease too. Read the fine print.

My grandparents won a few cars from raffles. Always just took the cash and donated it back to the charity running the raffle.

If you were "feet away" you didn't almost make a hole in one. Hit the pin or lip it out and you can say you almost made a hole in one.

So if I hit the top of the pin then I can say I almost made a hole in one?

I missed winning a Honda Ridgeline in a golf tournament on a 225 yard par 3 by 3".

My dad hit his first hole in one on a par 3 and won a Buick lesabre in 2002. We put 280,000 miles on it before my mom gave it to the housekeeper. He passed away 2 months ago. Glad he got to have that experience.

Ex's mom (no pic of either, I wouldn't do that to you) won a Mazda 3 from Diamond Mazda in 04. I bought from her in 16 when my car flooded for like 1k cash. Thing is still driving. I'm OT poor and don't want car debt so im still Zoom Zooming in it.

would assume that some people dont have the money to pay the taxes on the vehicle to begin with. And raffles are treated the same as winning the lotto or gambling. So the value of the car is also going to come into play. You buy a raffle ticket for $2, the car has a fmv of 25k. Your winnings are worth 24,998. You would owe the 24% on that. And you would owe whatever local taxes once you register the vehicle, but that varies on where you are. Some states have 0% tax on vehicles, like Alaska.

If you didn’t have the 6k, you’d have no problem getting a car loan to cover the taxes. Still a good deal.

Oh no doubt, but people are also terrible with money and have poor credit. And I just threw out a random number card now are worth more. Plus the hassle of selling if you go that route.

I’d rather win cash, but a car would be cool too.

When I was in grade school, my best friend's Mother won a red convertible in the Volunteer Fire Department annual fund raiser raffle.
She drove it around town for a week (and drove us to and from school in it, I still remember the white leather upholstery.
Then she traded it in for a "more useful" station wagon.

I won a used Suburu Justy in Reno once. It was a Mexican restaurant next to a Dealership having a Monday night football party. It didn’t say what kind of car but you had to be present to win. My friend I I drive down from Tahoe to play golf then go specifically to win. I sucked that round of golf but kept telling him “don’t matter…gonna win a car tonight.” There might have been 75 people there just as I planned. I won. Drive that POS around town all the next summer when it thawed out.

I knew a guy the won a Toyota FJ Cruiser about 12-15 years ago. Won it at a minor league baseball stadium promotional thing.

Paid some pretty healthy taxes, but it was still a helluva deal. FJ for the cost of taxes.

If you're in a golf tournament or something similar with a car as a prize for some kind of feat, the dealer takes out an insurance policy on the car. I've always wondered if someone could trade the dealer back the car for the insurance payout, but I'd guess that could be seen as insurance fraud?

Won a Harley a Toyota Tercel Honda Civic and a boat
Find things that are difficult to enter won the cars off a tv station during sweeps weeks you had to write down 3 diff times days you saw some jingle stuffed the boxes won two cars should have been three. Boat was the same way they were giving 25 away but you had to enter in person at a sea ray dealership, brothers girlfriend at the time was a flight attendant at delta when she was on trips she would rent a car hit the dealership stuff the box all over the country. It was a hobby in college. It worked out. People really do win.
