Window AC unit

We have a cabin with a loft. The central air does not keep it cool in the Texas summer. It is approximately 300 sq ft. Can anyone recommend an AC unit that works well for you?

Any of the Japanese or Korean split units.

Mini splits are around a grand I think. The loft is basically used when college kid is home for summer. I would prefer more economical for just a couple months a year.

We have the GE Ultra Quiet series and they work well and don’t drown out the room with noise.

Just go to Lowe’s and get one of those that they have on display in the aisle. There is sizing info on the box. Due to the loft configuration, I would probably go one size larger than they recommend. I have one of those in my bonus room that has been working for 12 years.

Do you have a ridge or gable vent of any fashion to remove the warm air? Some form of barrier insulation is helpful also.

Small cheap ones from home depot or lowes will freeze your balls off in a 300 s/f room. Read the s/f ratings on the unit and getcha one.

Is the loft open-air to the rest of the cabin? If so, the cold air from the window unit will just flow downhill like water.. downstairs will be extra cold but still uncomfortable upstairs.

Yes, I was hoping cold air would settle. The loft is open to the rest of the house.

You can put a fan up there along with the AC...a little turbulence will keep some air in the loft area.

I have a Frigidaire window unit in my den, I got it at Lowe’s. When I bought it several years ago it was the biggest one they sold and it cools 1,000+ square feet with no problem.

Wife, let me see if I can find pics, cut panels to make it look like a tent when he is home. I am hoping it helps below the loft as well.

Get something 7-8K BTU’ s. Put a fan in front of it to move the air.

You could probably go to walmart and pick up a LG or another type for about $250-$300 range and it will probably get the job done.
