You can put a fan up there along with the AC...a little turbulence will keep some air in the loft area.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will probably go with 8000 btu and oscillating fan at opening of loft to push cold air from above to help cool living room below.

They rock. I turn my central to 78 and use a window unit in our room at night. Keep the room at 68 and far more efficient.
