I think the advent of AI will have the potential to get people to start asking questions and getting real solutions again. Not just religiously, but philosophically and practically. It will take an enormous jolt like that to do it. We suffer from navel-gazing and social inertia at this point. AI has the potential to affect that, but we don't know how yet. It's not just nerd bullshite. It's coming.

Nope.
Itinerant preaching is nothing special. It's been the tactic for the last 200 years.
Both of those awakenings were done to incomplete countries and to primarily ALL Europeans.
Mather, Whitfield, J Edwards would get sued today or shot -- take your pick.
There is no more Manifest Destiny and if there is, it's the eastern Asian populations moving our way. They're not interested.

Islam had a great awakening in the 20th Century. That turned out pretty well.

Maybe not traditional emotion and belief-oriented religion, but perhaps something considered by many to be more spiritual in nature (yoga, meditation, etc.)

I guess I should say there won't be another Christian awakening.
I think the next time the entire country really wakes up as a whole will be after a catastrophic event, unfortunately. Look at Paris...look at San B...everyone has already forgotten. What a distracted society.

It already happened in 2001. Did the entire country "wake up as a whole?" Here we are 15 years later.

True. However science does oppose fundamentalism which is more in line with what the "simpletons" are saying when they claim "science opposes Christianity." A literal interpretation of the bible that yields the irk of young earth creationists, evolution deniers and so on is what is at odds with science. There are many open minded Christians who have been able to fit their faith into the realities that modern science has revealed.

Megachurch and Benny Hinn types are what's killing Christianity. Not all sectors are like that, but I think more and more people are trying to distance themselves from the crazies.

There will most certainly be a Great Awakening (barring we don't kill ourselves before it) and it will be the greatest awakening in the history of life. However it will not be one of modern day religions, but one of expansion of science, reason, and infinite knowledge and discovery. The Singularity is Near

As societies grow, they become less religious. It is the nature of things. As technology and science can begin to explain more and more of our world and universe and our places within it, the less religious we become.
The war on terror will do one of two things: galvanize Christianity in reaction to radical Islam or totally disillusion people with religion as they see just how big a tool of manipulation it can be. I think the latter will occur. And I think it will be some time before we see another "awakening".

That's a big part of the problem right there. We have a lot of mindless distractions like reality TV.
There's also the fact that we can get whatever we want right away. When we want to watch a movie we can get it right now on Netflix. We can get same day delivery from Amazon in some cities. We don't have to drop off a roll of film to see our pictures. There's a fast food restaurant within a mile or two of most people. That isn't inherently a bad thing but it conditions us to expect instant gratification. Religion is the ultimate long view and people don't have the patience to wait for rewards.
The other issue is that society is becoming more and more materialistic and licentious. Jesus told us 2000 years ago that you can't serve two masters, and we have more potential masters to serve these days. So a lot of people are choosing to serve those masters instead.
