Notice Will's left hand comes up to the side of his face nearest Rock in a guard position. Will trained significantly for Ali and has obviously maintained that training. It may have been real, but there was certainly a lot of acting involved.
I think if I'm going to do that, I'm knocking someone out by punching him.... not by an open-handed slap!

Black on black violence is just a function of white supremacy
Even black people with millions and millions of dollars can’t escape white supremacy!!

Would have been perfect if Rock had done his bit from his shitty movie, "Head of State."

Him crying to Denzel and Tyler Perry off to the side and then getting a pep talk and a bear hug from his white agent made me think it was real.
Every one of those people (accept for the agent...who would have his own agenda) are paid to pretend. And they are all pretty good at it.
It very well could have been a "real" event...but I am HIGHLY skeptical for several reasons.

A shitty, hack joke that wasn't even remotely funny? THAT"S what you decide to risk your entire career and overshadowing your Oscar win over?
It wasn't even remotely offensive.

Add to that his comedic chops and heckler material you know a comic has cued up.
Well the joke he finally said was pretty damn good (best night in television) and not the one that would have been written. It was funny because of the timing.
Again I understand why people think it could have been fake, the whole slap and walk away looked like it, but it was just way too awkward. You are literally hosting the best make believers in the world and that is what they came up with? The talking him down at the commercial break was part of the act?
It was weird and made will smith look bad. Unless he was tasked with just doing something stupid at some point, which is possible, I just don’t see it being fake.

No, unpacking information is a thing women do.
There was nothing to "Unpack."

But, but, Will seemed SO ANGRY and got talked up during the commercials and cried and hugged his agent.
At a shitty GI Jane joke

If Rock and Smith really hate each other like many are claiming in this thread, I doubt Smith would’ve been laughing his arse off at every other joke.
Jada’s reaction was instantaneous and I believe there is some resentment there due to his comments from when she boycotted.
However, Smith doesn’t seem to share in that hatred. The minute “Jada” came out of Rock’s mouth, Smith should’ve toned down the laughter.
It would’ve been more believable

I like how the slap brought Chris Rock to call out the lameness of the joke. “Wow dude. It was a GI Jane joke”

Jussie Smollett is saying Will Smith hit him too and yelled "this is MAGA country"

Will looked like a little bitch - why would he want to do that himself on purpose. Rock seemed like an actual man and held his composure extremely well. The only thing he fricked up was the following award announcement - at least from I've seen after the fact. I didn't even know the Oscars were last night. I was watching basketball, then celebrating and getting drunk.

To a normal person.
The joke may have been the straw that broke the camels back.
Im sure that having to constantly see and hear things about your marriage and your whore wife takes its toll. He finally snapped.

He didn't though. He was hamming it up and laughing at the jokes
Then well, the performance started.
