To what extent are people actually protesting American Eagle vs. to to what extent is is just random attention whores on social media saying something polarizing on social media for attention, because outrage gets attention.

Thank you, I'm chronically online and no one is protesting American Eagle. Just a bunch of people trying to attract views for the hot news item of the moment until the next thing pops up.

I paid $7 for a dozen eggs the other day and this is the shite people are most concerned about. An ad of a healthy pretty woman in jeans and they think its propaganda.

What the actual frick.

where our country really is now versus then

The country never really liked fat/ugly/gay people plastered in advertising. The ad executives and marketing people were the ones pushing it, cheered on by a small vocal minority of lunatics in the media.

Hopefully hot chicks in ads will become the default norm again.

When and why did people protest either company?

Really two completely different situations.

Bud Light basically shite on themselves by rubbing woke crap in their customers faces, a customer base that is notably blue collar and definitely not known for their love of drag shows. The whole tranny ad campaign was the brainchild of a millennial feminist PR exec who has since been shitcanned for not knowing her own customer base. Damage is done, though.

The AE situation was different. AR did an ad that their customers Liked, and all the bitching came from outsiders (i.e. liberals) who have never stepped foot in an AE store. Which is why AE doesn’t give a shite if they're mad or not. The ad only strengthened their relationship with their customer base.
