I realize there are “off the grid” people now but will it ever become a mainstream thing.

With the realization that we have no expectation of privacy any longer and increasing numbers of studies exposing the mental health concerns of social media will significant numbers of people start ditching or at least minimizing use of smartphones and other technology? Something similar to “paleo” and “keto” lifestyles except with technology instead of food.

For contrarian/obtuse assholes I dont mean completely off the grid like a cabin in the wilderness.

Doubtful. "On the grid" makes life easy.

You can never truly be off the grid unless you want to revert back to the beginning of time and live in mud huts in the smokey mountains.

“Off the Grid” as far as getting solar panels and septic tanks, probably.

Cutting internet and cellphones too? Don’t see it happening.

No doubt, im more or less referring to people seeking to minimize their digital footprint or just seek a life with less constant distractions.

Honestly this appeals to me...but there are a few things that hold me back...stupid stuff like group texts with my friends, gps, and tinder/bumble. Id love to live a simpler life...but not an isolated one if that makes sense

I don't think the whole all-in "off the grid" lifestyle (i.e. no phone, living off the land, etc.) will become mainstream.

But yes, I do think a counter-culture will eventually form against excessive technology use. I would not be surprised in the least if - in 25 years - lots of people lump social media and excessive technology usage in the same category as smoking. For example, people calling out their friends for being on their phone in social situations. It will become a lot more stigmatized as our culture moves past the "technological adolescence" that we're going through right now.

I don't know if I would go as far as to predict it will be "mainstream" but I think we'll see it. You're already seeing some of it now.

I guess what I envision is something more or less like living in the year 2001. Cellphones just made calls and texts(were just becoming popular then). If you went out to eat, phones were nowhere to be seen.

I could imagine edgy restaurants in the future banning inside use of cellphones(to promote more social atmosphere).

Every time I go off the grid, I feel like I’m suffering a slow and painful death until I get back to technology.

No way. People today are far too spoiled with conveniences to give all that up to live a minimalistic lifestyle like off the grid folks do.

If a bunch of people got off the grid, but you remained on the grid, how would you even know if it became popular?
