New Orleans has had one of the nation's highest decline in it's Black population in the last 20 years. From 68% in 2000 to 53% in 2020. And one of the fastest growing White populations in the last 2 decades. From 27% to 32%.
I was thinking by 2035 that New Orleans would be closer to equal as far Black and White but I'm suddenly not sure. The Black population is fast declining because the growing cost of living, lack of jobs, bad public schools, and crime. But so is the White population. Also New Orleans population has significantly declined since 2020 which is never good news for a "growing city". New Orleans has lost 20K people and counting. The only positive demographic of New Orleans are HIspanics which they are growing fast everywhere including Baton Rouge so that's not a big deal per se.
I feel like New Orleans has so much potential but I think the things that make it appealing also is its downfall. For example, New Orleans is well known for being a fun party city. However, that strong party culture leads to a highly immature and aloof population. This is the same population that let the incompetent and lying LaToya Cantrell in office twice. They don't care who is in office... life is one big arse party to them ... they brain is focused on the next second line or music fest. With that said, New Orleans is just in a very gray area to me. I feel like New Orleans need to focus on a rebrand and fall a bit away from tourism to keep its middle class intact (mostly White folks) and attract better demographics to ensure the city won't go the way of a Detroit.
Also Atlanta will have a White and middle class plurality by 2030. New Orleans needs to follow the Atlanta blueprint. A city that went from mostly poor and Black to mostly White and middle class in 20 years. If Atlanta can do it, so can New Orleans. Atlanta is expensive just like New Orleans ... that's one of the biggest driver for the change. But the ATLANTA BRAND is able to attract a lot more affluent people from outside Georgia as well, that's where New Orleans fail.

There is also an article from last month saying black owned businesses are at an all-time high in the Atlanta area and not slowing down anytime soon. I’d lead the country in black owned growth the last five years.
It’s called black Mecca for a reason
Tell me you never been to Atlanta and have bad comprehension skills without telling me.
1) I said Atlanta will have a White and middle class plurality by 2030. Those demographics you shared are from 5 years ago and a lot has changed since then. Atlanta rent has gone up like $400 and home prices like $200K. We all know Blacks are disproportionately lower income and the most likely to move when things go up
2) Black businesses make up 8% of businesses in the Atlanta metro area. I know you're not going to do the research so let me help you. You can't believe everything you read without validation. And anything can be classified as a Black business. Somebody selling ice cream at a park can be considered a business ... it's not like Black people have storefronts and own property throughout most of the city ... that's untrue.

3) People who visit Atlanta are always shock it's not as Black as they thought. Atlanta is very diverse now and a lot of Black people in the southern suburbs now. Atlanta is becoming or has become a city for higher income folks. And contrary to popular belief, Asians and Hispanics are the fastest growing in Atlanta. It's not Black

Are you joking? The mayor gave a whole speech after Katrina basically saying that he didn't care what the people in the Garden District and Uptown thought, it was his vision to rebuild New Orleans as a Chocolate City.

Internet message boards were in their infant stages. As a whole, the country complained much less prior to the proliferation of social media and massive growth in 24-hour cable news after 9/11.
Murder rates were much higher back in the early 2000s than they are today (although they had experience a sharp decline from the murder rates of the early 90s), But homelessness was not as welcomed by the city as it is today.
exactly, things were much worse in the 70s-mid 90s but you didnt have it shoved in your face 24/7 so you just went about your business and didnt really pay attention too much.

All races in New Orleans will go down in numbers as long as it's ran by the same group of people. I love the city, just don't see what it has to offer economically speaking to a lot young professional s vs a city like Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston and even cities like Charlotte, Nashville, Raleigh, Huntsville, and others are well above it. If you have connections or work in tourism, sure.

I'm a Black. I never been to a White Nationalists meeting in my life. I don't support racial supremacy of any kind. I just know that cities with the best quality of life have a high White, conservative, and middle class population. It's call having a brain and recognizing patterns ...ya'll swear everybody is racists ... that word don't even have power anymore.

Atlanta metro area is whiter than most of the metro areas in Louisiana.
A lot of people on here barely leave their hometown and get their news from Facebook.

I'm old enough. I don't remember that but I think he only said that because people kept saying that the levee was bombed by White supremacists near Black neighborhoods to wipe them out. I don't believe the levee was bombed but I remember that being a popular rumor believed by a lot of Black people and their White liberal enablers

You must not have lived in NOLA during Katrina or were really young. Look up the quote from Ray Nagin. It made big enough news that it became a meme, at least locally, before memes were even really a thing.

The city of Atlanta has been gentrifying for a while now and gets less Black each year. The area is still a magnet for Black people but most of them move to the eastern and southern suburbs. White people and Asians are moving to the northern suburbs. The ATL metro is seeing insane growth in every direction. A similar racial movement has been happening in New Orleans except there hasn't been any growth. It's just the existing populace moving around (Whites and Asians to the Northshore/parts of Nola, Black people to Nola East/Westbank, Hispanics to East Jeff).

Yeah but Atlanta is now a magnet for HIGHER INCOME Black people. That's important to note. Atlanta used to be cheap which was one of the big problems hindering its progress. Now that it's no longer cheap ... it has scattered and discouraged a lot of riff raff in the city. The only bad thing is that a lot of artistic folks that make big cities like Atlanta more interesting can no longer afford to live in Atlanta but hey it is what it is ... a small number will be able to make it work
