Will I have to pay tax difference on vehicle when moving?

I just bought a new truck that is registered for 9.5% sales tax. Vehicle is paid off.

We're moving and I'm going to have to transfer my registration with 10% tax.

Will I have to pay the .5% difference of sales tax when I change registration address?

Even if it's in state?

How do I calculate that if so? Tax on total vehicle price or price I paid after trade in?

Some states will hit you for the difference, if any, and others may let you slide if you've had it a while.

Florida, for example, says that if you purchased a car six months or more before bringing it to Florida, Florida sales or use tax do not apply. If you bought it less than six months ago, you pay the difference in rates. LINK

Look on the OMV or DMV for your new state and see what they say.

We moved out of state and just transferred registration. We didn't have to pay any additional sales tax, we only had to show that we had already paid taxes on the vehicles in Louisiana.

And our new sales tax rate is considerably higher than we had in Louisiana.

Right. But then he said he "knows" if he moved out of state he would have to pay the difference, which wasn't true in my case.

Serious question. Why would you need to transfer it at all until your tags are about to expire? I don't know anybody that does that. I have a friend that has lived in MO for 30 years and he still has MS tags on his pickup. I don't know why you'd do that either...just sayin.

I finally spoke with someone from the DMV.

She told me that I don't have to pay any tax difference but my license and registration address have to match or I could get ticketed.

And to answer your question; i travel to/from destin a bit and get caught by toll cameras. when the plate (which matches my registration address) runs through the system, the toll bill would go to old address
