Pretty much anyone selling alcohol is reporting sales and consumption as down as well. It’s not just self-report studies from young adults.

No.
Next Question.
Is Vaping equally as trashy as Cigarettes?
No, it is more trashy.

Sloppy drunkenness is off-putting. You don’t see it in the rest of the world like you do here—sure, maybe some places, but not many. There are better drugs if you’re chasing a stronger effect.
Drunk happens everywhere, Americans are just notorious for wanting to fight everything and make a scene when they are drunk.
I believe it's just a cycle, alcohol bad, all these other unknown, untested, no long term side effect things are way better.
Just like smoking: smoking bad, vaping good. Wait vaping bad, Zyn good.

I could see that happening way down the road. Trends may eventually make it trashy like smoking so that drinking is done more at home than in public.
But they still sell plenty of smokes, and there will always be a market for alcohol. Folks just may be a little less open about it.
A significant part of the population, throughout history and in every part of the planet, find some way to get fricked up. Whiskey, weed, peyote, opium, mushrooms, pulque, pruno, cocaine, xanax, Oxy, fentanyl, etc.
I think some of you misunderstood what I meant and this response is more of what I was getting at. I'm not saying Anheuser-Busch InBev is going out of business, just like RJ Reynolds is still a profitable business.
I'm not saying (nor do I want us to) we're going back to prohibition. More that it will just be considered socially unacceptable or at least not as popular.
I have friends with a lot of kids who are in college or their mid-20s. Almost none of them drink heavily. I've even talked to some of them who have said "no one drinks on campus anymore, it's all about THC, marijuana, gummies, etc.". When my 2 nieces turned 21, neither of them really made a big deal of it. In fact my 1 niece doesn't drink at all. The point is, when I turned 21, that was a huge deal. I do not get the sense that is a huge deal anymore for Gen Z, as drinking just isn't as popular as it used to be.
I do agree that beer will go first due to the calories. Wine, Tequila, Bourbon, Whiskey, Rum aren't going anywhere.
I also never meant to say we were getting rid of vices period. History shows us that when one vice goes out, another one comes in. I think Gen Z is by and large swapping out alcohol for marijuana, cocaine, oxy, fentanyl, gummies, etc.
In the end, I do believe in the next 75 to 100 years, alcohol will be looked at in the same way most of us look at cigarettes and even general tobacco use today, which is to say trashy. That doesn't mean it won't be replaced with another vice, it will.

When did people stop buying cigarettes?
While people are still smoking and it's still a multi-billion dollar industry, cig sales are declining 10% year over year.

People started drinking beer thousands of years ago, with some of the earliest evidence pointing to brewing by the Natufians in Israel around 11,000 BCE, and a more established production appearing with the Sumerians of Mesopotamia around 3,500 BCE. The Sumerian "Hymn to Ninkasi" is the oldest known beer recipe, and the drink was a staple for early civilizations, used in religious rituals, as a form of payment, and for social bonding.
It's been around for just a few years, so I don't think it's going away any time soon.
Maybe it was on a long term peak in the 50's, through the 90's, and it's getting back to normal levels.

You don’t need a PhD to realize breathing in a substance other than clean air would be more harmful than absorbing an extract through your saliva glands.

This is another good point. A lot of people are going from alcohol to THC, CBD, gummies because the thought process seems to be they are safer and healthier for you. That you get the high without the hangover.
I'm sure 30 years ago a lot of people though alcohol was healthier for you than smoking. The reality is it's just as dangerous, just in other ways. Sure alcohol won't destroy your lungs like smoking, it'll just destroy your liver and kidneys.
The common theory seems to be these products are healthier for you than alcohol, but like you said, we don't really know that yet.

I think attitudes on alcohol are definitely changing, plus there's a cost involved and they keep going up.

This. Beer and wine have been food staples since humans have been around. It ain’t going anywhere.

I know a lot of studies have come out in recent years on how bad alcohol is for you, even in moderate doses. There used to be the old "one glass of wine is good for you" thought process by many, and even that has been debunked.
You actually read those studies? They are garbage. Which makes your whole post garbage too...

You sound a lot like me. I’m 37 now but a few years ago I significantly cut back. It wasn’t a conscious decision, I just randomly stopped drinking as much. Fast forward to today and I might have a handful of drinks throughout the course of a year. It just doesn’t entice me anymore.

Many of our earliest known archeological sites there have been signs of fermenting alcohol
Never going anywhere. The next gen after Alpha and Z will think they are prudes and will drink like fish

I hope so. I hate being around drunks everywhere I go.
Also drunk driving is still a thing even with unlimited options not to.

It was the best alternative given water could contain harmful pathogens that made it undrinkable.

Look im not arguing sematics about this or that grou is drinking more or less. But to take that and say alcohol will go away is fricking retarded...
Humans have been consuming alcohol, for over 13,000 years. name something else that humans have been doing for that long outside of eating and sex.

Partially because you could get dysentery from drinking water
Never seen so many dudes so mad other people don’t drink. Yall can be alcoholics if you want to, nobody is stopping you. Doesn’t change the fact that alcohol consumption, particularly by young people, is way down
