Depends on location. Plus, it is a gas station. Don't know of many that don't have seedy people pass through.

Now true, this city has more than its fair share of derelicts on every corner, and at every gas station, but the fact that Racetrac draws them is true in my experience. Whether its Siegen, S Sherwood, Old Hammond, Coursey, Tom, etc, the song remains the same, and I do try and avoid them at all cost.

Not taking up for BRPD in anyway but EBRSO isn’t any better as far as the 1 experience I had with them

They are too busy to deal with “minor” crimes which only makes the trash in EBR bolder because they know nothing will happen

This is why Costco and Sam's are where you get gas.

I usually get it a Kroger's, I know where I live is different than BR but the Racetracs and QTs around here are all shiny and spotless, no sketchy clientele, hell, they even have little delis in them that look pretty good

No matter where it is located too. Racetrac really is a magnet for the lowest common denominators.

The new one on highland is great. They have surprisingly good pizza. But yeah, I would generally agree that racetracs are full of sketchy people. Not sure if it’s just Baton Rouge or their business model

I said location matters. Baton Rouge is a shithole.

But more alarming are the idiots that come out of the woodwork to comment stupidly. I just dont get the humor and sarcasm.

People do what people do. It is what our society has become. It really doesn't bother me. I learned long ago people aren't as bold to say things to your face that they do behind a screen. So you just have to let it roll off. It isn't worth the energy to even reply or think about. But hey if it gives them 2 seconds of satisfaction let them have their moment of gratification. lol

I go to Racetrac all the time, including Sherwood and the one where OP's wife was assaulted, but yeah there are always vagrants and riff raff around.

I pretty much carry a Glock 43 with me everywhere these days.

Absolutely correct. Racetrac is to derelicts and bums as a rotting fish is to flys.

so do you feel confidence in a defense attorney and the jury of your peers if you have to use it?

That’s not the point of arming oneself if self defense is necessary. If you’re going to base your decisions- especially decisions regarding your own safety- on the success of a legal outcome, you better never ever leave your home.

It’s amazing the BRPD detectives haven’t done shite about this.

Eh, not really. BRPD needs to get away from the idea that all patrol has to do is take an initial report and a detective will do the rest of it. That would take a lot of work off of detectives to focus on higher priority investigations and would make patrol give more of a shite about their initial report if their arse gets called to the carpet over laziness.

Also, while I completely understand why OP's wife became discouraged and did not want to give a statement, that allows BRPD to close the case due to an uncooperative victim, which they are more than happy to do to get it off of their plate.

They have to allow crime to happen because they will get sued by the criminals.
