Wife kicked out of her scheduled doctors appointment

My wife just got kicked out of her scheduled check up because she had our 17 month old with her. The office said they only allow children up to 6 weeks.
What is the fricking difference between a 6 week old and a 17 month old as it relates to the virus? Are we suppose to just let our kids outside to fricking forage after they are older than 6 weeks when we have to go to the doctor? They didnt say anything about this when we scheduled this appointment.
I understand taking precautions but this whole virus response is absolute bullshite with zero standardization or intelligent, practical response.

My clinic made me take off my neck gator and put on a regular mask the other day for blood work. I was pissed too.

My kid was quarantined exactly 2 weeks before the start of Thanksgiving break so she was out of school for almost a month, symptom free. I just sent her back yesterday and didn't get her Covid tested.
The school called me this morning and said I have to get a letter from her doctor that she's clear to return. So fricking stupid. We've lost all common sense.

If you told them she was bringing the baby, it's up to them to ask the age if they have a policy. Someone on their end fricked up and now you are being punished for it.
