When it comes to this frick up or the overall mess the Helene recovery efforts have been, it’s really hard for me not to point the finger at incompetence. I haven’t met too many government employees who are even capable of chewing gum and walking at the same time without detailed instructions or assistance.

But it also seems that overall, the disaster in NC doesn’t seem to be a priority for Washington DC. When you combine stupidity and the lack of fricks being given, this type of thing is the result.

Maybe that’s on the National Guard (or whoever is operating the helicopters), or maybe it’s on the people who staged all of the tents and supplies. Or maybe it’s a communication breakdown between the two groups. But there are plenty of explanations that do not require any sort of nefarious intentions.

People are melting down because private organizations aren't allowed to do whatever they want, and then they melt down because the private organizations are in places affecting the NG response, due to refusing to coordinate with the government (possibly because of these internet rumors), and its' hurting their efforts.

This is just like the drone stupidity. Yeah they're going to restrict drones to avoid this scenario in the air with helos. The CT-minded folks would blame the helos in that scenario, too.

Especially local/county-level incompetence.

A lot of the horror stories coming out about "FEMA" turn out to be small scale local authorities on a power trip. The best example was that helo pilot who was threatened with arrest. It was "FEMA" on X/Twitter, but in reality was some local fire chief or something.

Because the fed wants to keep these predominantly republican areas in a mess until after the election in an attempt to help the Democratic Party.

It's amazing how many people here believe the government actually wants to help you. They have been on record admitting there are too many people on the planet.

The government isn't a singular entity and just because one person said something doesn't imply "the gubment" said. But yes there are far too many people on planet earth I'd agree with whomever said it

So the local officials of these GOP-heavy areas are helping the DEMs?

I hate when the regime cries about misinformation and seems to want to throttle things on the internet -- that said, I sat back and thought yesterday, is the response on Helene really all that bad? It was a freak storm and I guess you could complain the military wasn't deployed immediately or something, but as long as FEMA is there within a few days, what else can you do? I make this point because if you're not on Twitter, you don't really think anything is wrong. And for all the people who disagree, I felt the same way about the orange man and COVID. MSM was going to bury him no matter what, and I thought it was unfair. We're truly in information wars now, I guess.

It was a legit freak incident in an area that isn't exactly full of easily-navigable terrain.

I was in CO this past weekend and got delayed hours b/c of one wreck on one mountain road (that we later found out had to shut down the whole road for like half a day).

And like I said earlier, these local yokels are not helping (and are being turned into "FEMA"). These helos in OP are likely National Guard, too.

Somehow they ignore the bungled response and lack of FEMA funding following Hurricane Laura, which was during the Trump admin.

I understand the reference. Now try to answer my question above and make it fit.

You didn't answer the question, so you're doing this yourself.

The question is posted, so you can still answer.

People will believe anything from the internet if it’s positioned the right way.

It would take any of us 5 minutes to go find a video, post it on twitter with some conspiratorial commentary, and it would appear on the poli board or here.
