Is this dependent on population? Meaning if the jurisdiction’s population is small (and they can’t afford for people to fail to show) would they be more likely to serve in-person?

i got served 30 yrs ago by both sides in person and was paid i think $30 each time lol

They do this in St. Bernard and it’s because 1) people were not showing up and were saying they never got it in mail and 2) that’s believable because mail delivery here is awful

Usually mailed. But one time my husband was served for jury duty.

As in to inform them they have jury duty?

Could be a higher profile criminal trial. The court wants to be sure that there are plenty of jurors since many are likely to be dismissed.
