Not sorry for taking issue with the claim that "to say they wouldn’t have gotten out of there is a far stretch."

If I was at that hospital I would hate the government for the rest of my life.

I have to ask. I've noticed it in your posts a bit.
What's up with the five to six commas thing?
Like not ellipses (....) but commas (,,,,,,)
But you use it like a coma. Am I to read a 3 second pause?

This is what a lot of people don't get. The decisions you make in a situation like that aren't the same that you make in a perfect world. I would never want to have to make decisions that were made then. Kudos to those that did their best.

,,,they were also operating in an information vacuum,
This is the aspect of the whole thing that seems lost on a lot of people.

I can recall being in the ER Tues night around 11pm, pitch black, hot as hades, and more patients than anyone can handle,,,and this went on for several more days, without much food or drinkable water,,,,they were also operating in an information vacuum, in what became a 3rd world hospital,
This is one of the situations where I do believe the federal government should/could have stepped up much sooner. Maybe they didn't know what was really happening there or it was just too much of a red tape situation, but a lot more could have been done much sooner at that hospital.

Seriously? This was discussed so many times in this forum.

I evacuated NOLA the day before Katrina hit, have heard Dr. Pou speak at an emergency manageemnt conference, have read a few books about it and I work in disaster recovery. And it is still absolutely unfathomable to me that in 2005 this hospital was operating on an island without any electricity or any kind of plan. I know Katrina was the catalyst for huge changes in emergency management and disaster planning, but holy shite. It's still so unbelievable.

It seems pretty clear that there was no way those patients were getting out of there without dying and Pou & others did what they thought was best for those patients.
Simply put you can not self award the authority to make that decision and carry it out.

Another reason i didnt see mentioned: Because the guy she euthanized was extremely unhealthy and obese and still begged for her to find some way to save him.
Of course he had no chance at all and she did what she had to.
Nurses being nurses one or more took issue with Anna Pou making the decision after he begged and reported her. shite easily snowballed from there.

Something tells me that she pretty much the fall guy for this.
A call came from above her and she is just the one that had to take the blame

Definitely political theater.
I will say though, hats off to those doctors & nurses that stayed. They deserve the world and then some, talk about true heroes. Between them & the other hospitals that were left, their selflessness and heroism doesn't get talked about enough.

We carried them up the stairs, bagging them,,,,,now, the really really large ones could have been taken by boat, but I didn’t participate in that
I was at Touro, we were fortunate enough that we didn't get flooded in. The National Guard guys had to carry spinal rehab pts from the ninth floor to the third floor.
We were only running five vents at the time, those pt.'s were air lifted out first.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, since we had no power because of bad diesel that was delivered, it got so hot in the hospital we moved the pt.'s, still there, out to the garage. Touro's helipad is part of said garage, most pt.'s were air lifted out. Helicopters used the helipad and the top floor of the garage.
As chaotic as it was at Touro, Baptist sounded like hell.
We were able to open a month later, I reported back to Touro October 1st. We just had the ED open at the time, which the hospital gradually came back.

If your mother or father were in a hospital with a chronic condition. Then a storm hit and the hospital was evacuated but your parent left behind. Would you rather them dehydrate to death after their IV runs out or die in their sleep?
It wasn't playing god it was compassionate care.

Thanks for spoiling the show a-hole. Maybe change your title.
This is like watching the movie Titanic and complaining about someone telling you it sinks in the end.

Lets frame the question differently, while begging for your life would you rather take your chances or be murdered in your bed by some sadistic fricking loon?
She should be executed on live TV by firing squad as a message.

And when she walked in that room the night before surgery, she was quite possibly the coldest woman I've ever seen. It was shocking.
It was also exactly what I would want in a physician; as previously stated, doing a thyroidectomy on a 90lb cancer patient who had significant radiation damage was quite impressive. She did an amazing job.
Who cares about her bedside manner?
Amazing job>>>>>shits and giggles
